“A calm oasis in Montparnasse and well worth a visit”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

This gallery puts on temporary exhibitions so you should check what is on beforehand. When we went there was 'Show and Tell' a show of untrained artists mostly from places like Brazil and India. Although it was quite naiive and folky it was also political - behind the lovely colours and simple designs was a message. At the end of the show was a video made by an indian tribe about their exploitation by a 'civilised' society. It was quite moving and somehow made the wonderful artworks more poignent.

The space itself is very modern and a good place to view art - especially modern art. There is a little café in the garden behind the gallery and was an oasis in Montparnasse. It's near to Raspail Metro station so is easy to get to.

“A happy find a stone's throw from JP Sartre's cemetery”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Not cheap to go in but what a fab building. We were with children aged 6 to 11 and it was a perfect place and space being bright big and colourful. The exhibition was of a mixed standard but incorporated some excellent ethnic art work. It is a fun place to visit and be in. The garden is a joy, being deliberately rambling and slightly overgrown and on a sunny day is very relaxing. The outside cafe is ridiculously overpriced and didn't have milk for the tea or coffee.

Always interesting exhibits. Great bookstore. Warning: if you don't speak French you might find explanatory notes only in French.
