“For me Paris = Hotel Kensington for location”
Reviewed May 26, 2012

I have been to Paris 6 times and 5 times I have stayed at the Kensington because of location and conviance for all. Yes rooms are small, but where do you not find small rooms in Paris, unless you rent a more luxury hotel by paying much, much more.

When I travel all I need is a descent hotel with a good location since I only need it to bathe and to sleep at night.

In the area behind the hotel you have the market where all the locals shop and many caffees where you can eat for much less than you would at a restaurant.

I totally recommend this hotel..... I have travel with both friends and family and all were content with the place!

Room Tip: I do not remember room numbers, but make sure to request a front view!

We had 3 in our family and had to purchase 2 rooms on different floors. The rooms were so small. Just a foot path around the bed. The bath was even smaller. You can't sit down on the toilet w/o hitting your knees and the shower is so small that to bend over and pick up soap or shampoo causes one to knock the handles which readjusts the water temp. Keeping the water temp regulated was difficult.
The room was clean. You can hear others in the hotel. Walls are thin. Everything felt cramped. There is a lift/ elevator. It says it is for 3 persons. That may be true, if you are small. It barely fit 2 w/ some luggage. The staircase is a spiral, which makes carrying luggage up difficult. At night, the lights in the hall only go on by pushing a button, and go off after a minute or two automatically. So you have to be quick to get into your room. We did not buy breakfast from the hotel, but went out for our own. They have a very small compact area with 4 tables for eating.
The location of the hotel is very good. It is a short walk to the Eiffel. Restaurants abound in the neighborhood. A pharmacy is close by, as well as metro stations and grocery stores.
The hotel staff were pretty helpful. Most spoke English well.
The lobby has a computer for a charge to use.

Room Tip: If you are a large American, which we are not, this hotel would not be good for you.

OK, it's not a fabulous, luxury hotel, but it is in a great location. Considering that you visit Paris to be out in the city, why would you care for more than a good, comfortable bed, a kind staff and a good breakfast (extra cafe au lait provided)? We spent a wonderful 10 nights at this hotel.
Our front room had a view of the Eiffel Tower (a few blocks away) but the street noise was negligible. And it is so close to Rue Cler's charming shops & restaurants. We walked everywhere safely and the Metro was a couple of blocks away. Just outside the entrance is a stop for the #69 bus which acts like a tour bus to give you an overview of Paris for the price of a Metro ticket.
Seated at our window we would have afternoon snacks of wine, fruit, cheese & baguettes purchased on Rue Cler, while we planned our next outing.
We look forward to returning here for another escape from the ordinary.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower.

Staff is nice, bed was OK, quiet location...
but:
- Bathroom was horrible (look at the pictures and you will understand).
- Breakfast takes place in a tiny crammed hallway
- Carpets filthy
From seeing some review pictures, I understand that room 51 has not been renovated, still....

Room Tip: Avoid room 51

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Kensington for four nights in early October 2011. Overall we really enjoyed our stay there! The room was small but clean and plenty big for the two of us and our two carry-on sized suitcases. The bathroom was huge! The staff was very nice and helpful. We were on the front side of the hotel, which was a bit noisy but added to the character of our Paris visit. The location is excellent--very close to the Eiffel Tower, near a Metro stop and close to a number of excellent restaurants. Our biggest issue with the hotel came at check out time. We checked out at 6:00 am and had a taxi waiting for us to take us to an early morning flight at Charles de Gaulle airport. We had been assured previouly that they take credit cards, but upon check out, their credit card machine was down. My husband had to run down the street and use two different ATM cards to get money to pay for our stay, while the taxi was waiting. All in all, everything worked out, but was a minor inconvenience. Next time we will just make sure we have cash for check out! All in all, a lovely place.

Room Tip: Front side of hotel is a bit noisy, so if you are bothered by noise, ask for a room in the back

Having booked this hotel on several occasions I am happy to recommend this accomodation.
Yes, the rooms may be small, (but this is typical of small hotels) but the hotel has a lovely ambience. The staff are friendly and the management/proprietor is often at the front desk.
Close to many attractions, Eiffel, Napoleon tomb, Roden,Metro,Shops,Restaurants in the locale, and beautiful 7th at the doorstep.

Room Tip: Front upstairs for view of Eiffel
