Years ago we purchased round-trip tickets to Paris not knowing that the time frame was during the Spring fashion shows when all (or most) hotels were fully booked. After considerable searching, we found the Hotel Bellevue et du Chariot d'Or on rue Turbigo, and we have been staying there ever since. That was about 17 years ago, and we have gone to Paris on the average of a couple of times a year since. As such, we have stayed there close to 35-40 times, and have never been disappointed. It is not a fancy place, but the rooms are clean and the staff is exceptionally helpful. Plus, the location is great. It is a good value on the edge of the Marais, and we look forward to returning there very soon.

Room Tip: The Bellevue has undergone considerable renovation in recent years, and the owner is constantly maki...

Good location for vegetarians. The hotel is located near 2 supermarkets and a health food coop serving a hot lunch M-F. 2 japanese and 1 chinese restaurants are very close by.

Don't be put off by the facade. I think it is supposed to be faux-ancien. This building was built in 1860. Elevator works well. My husband said it needs a paint job, but I think the front is painted the way it is to blend in with the granite entranceway.

Our room was just what we wanted. Twins beds, excellent mattresses, complete bath with tub and hand-held shower. We enjoyed the little balcony with french windows on the street side. I didn't mind the noise but my husband did. I love Paris so much I even like its noise. Interior rooms are also available.

All hotel staff were polite, skilled, and efficient. In addition, my husband was sick in bed for 4 days and the staff were very supportive, sympathetic, and helpful.

Clearly non Americans have a better time at this hotel as our standards for cleanliness and service are quite high. The service here was truly poor.

This hotel has abandoned all interest in providing lovely stays for their guests, as they are just concerned about collecting their money.

We left the hotel quickly.

Room Tip: No A/C, so if you're there, you'll want a window, hopefully more than one with some cross br...

If you travel under budget and look for basic but comfortable accomodation in a convenient locaton, look no elsewhere. Bonus: lift, new spacious bathroom with hair dryer.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 days, and had a great experience. The location is amazing with tons of restaurants and shops within walking distance, and central Paris a 10 minute walk (or 2-3 metro stops). The hotel hallways and corridors are shabby, but our room was quite comfortable and clean. We were on the 6th floor, and had a great bathroom with full tub. The staff was also very helpful to us, and kindly switched to communicating in English with us after my bumbling attempts at French (it has been a few years since I last spoke it!) Overall, it made for an excellent experience.

You cannot beat the Location or Price.

The remaining suffers.

I totally agree with RMHSRM.

The staff simply does not care about you or their jobs.

We had questions and couldn't get them answered.

Nor, was there anyone available in a position of authority to respond to us.

Fortunately, we found a concierge at a nearby hotel who did an extraordinary job helping us and told us he often gets guests from Hotel Bellevue et du Chariot D'or requiring his assistance.

We paid him handsomely.

This two star hotel has been our favorite for years. The place is nothing special in terms of amenities and furnishings, but the beds are good and the staff is wonderful. You can feel well taken care of at this place. The loacation in the 2nd Arronsidment is very convenient both for the Metro and for walking with plenty of good foor only a few minutes walk. It is not fancy, but is very comfortable save for the occasional college tour groups who don't understand that you can hear every word they say when their windows are open to the courtyard. We have stayed here on twelve trips to Paris.Good value.
