“3 night stay”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

I bought this holiday for my boyfriends birthday present. From Charles De Gaulle it took us around an hour and a half to get to the hotel and it was very simple, we got the train (rer) to denfert rochereau and from there we jumped on a tube to porte de orleons, the tube is not even 1 meter from the hotel door which was amazing and it only cost 9 euros each!!
Upon arrival we were greated by a not so friendly blonde woman who wasnt interested in being friendly she just wanted to give us the key and to go away (this was the feeling we got anyway) the lift was broken and remained broken the whole trip so climbing 3 flights of stairs all the time did get quite tedious. When we went in our room it was not like any of the pictures, it was clean and tidy but generally horrible, the decor was dated and the carpet was worn. I returned to the reception desk to complain and requested we were put into a Boutique room as this was what I had paid to stay in, and continued to explain that this type of room I could of got a lot cheaper and a lot closer to the city center. She lied to my face and said the hotel was full even though I could see room keys.
We slept in the room for one night and returned to the desk in the morning to be greeted by a very lovely fresh faced man from london who was very very helpfull and genuinly lovely, we explained and he stated he completely understood our anger and that it would be sorted by the evening, we went out for a day out sightseeing and on return a different woman with curly brown hair who was also lovely had a key for our new room, it was beautiful, Alice in wonderland themed, with Big black lamps shaped like rabbits, pink curtains, a huge white bed and woodland wall paper we were delighted! It was very very clean and very very well presented, It did however smell of cigerette smoke, but we passed this by as everyone in paris seems to smoke and reception had a maid sent up immeidatly to spray it for us with room freshener.
The bathroom was small but clean, apart from the shower head which did have dried soap scum on the head, I did try to clean this and it wouldnt budge so I wont say that it hadnt been cleaned as I'm sure it had.
Every time we left for the day we returned to a tidied room with fresh towels and a made up bed which was lovely, there was a mini bar in our room but unlike some hotels you are not charged for oepening it, so we took everything it and filled with food and drinks we bought form the supermarket round the corner. It is a beautiful stylish hotel, in a very lovely area, next to a bakery, cash machines a cafe and a supermarket, I wouldnt say it was close to any attraction but the tube is in touching distance so it was really no trouble, I wouldnt definitly stay again, my advice would be though that as you book you request in capitols that you want a design room - as thats what they call them.

Stayed here for a weekend in August with my wife. Stayed in the purple room with an interesting wallpaper... Pur room was Nice and clean, as was the front desk and small lobby room. To bad that the stairs and hallways Are so dirty that they drag down the overall impression. The room next to ours was being refurbished, so my guess is that they might be putting the "design" in one room at a time...

The lift is TINY, better use the stairs if you can :-)

Location is a bit far outside of Paris, but if you like to walk then there is no trouble to Get to the major sights easily enough. And the metro is right there when you step out of the hotel. About a 15 min ride to notre dame.

The cafe's outside Are very charming and very french...

Nice rates, but would probably stay somewhere more central next time.

The positives - the entrance hallway and reception area was nice with 'funky' decor. The female receptionist on our arrival was helpful. Good public transportation links with both a metro stop and tram stop just outside. The bed was comfy.
The negatives - tiny room, decor - I can only describe as shabby, dirty carpet, cheap tacky furniture although there wasnt much of it. The male receptionist as we checked out needs to learn that it is unacceptable to be sarcastic to customers especially when there is a language barrier issue!
Over priced for what it was - description definately overhyped it. I would not stay there again and would not recommend to friends - sorry.

10 steps to metro station and 20 meters to the tram line to Porte Choisy for delicious Chinese cuisine if you like. Super cheerful front desk staff, Ms Tatev was very helpful during check in and even offered a 2pm late check out that made our last minute shopping rush fruitful. Will definitely come back !!

Accompanied my wife who was attending Masion et Objet. We drove and parked in Car Park 5 mins walk. NB €24 per day.
Though other side of town from exhibition hotel is in a perfect location right on Metro Porte D'Orleans and close to ring road.
Yet very quiet rooms many of which are being updated.
Some good eateries less than 5 mins walk.
Would I come back yes. Opt for first floor rooms as lift compact to say the least.

The hotel has some good points and some negatives.

Let sstart with the good points. The hotel is located in a great locale south of the city. The metro line 4 (purple) D'Orleans station is across the street and it takes 15-20 min to get to the central city where the tourist sites are located. The are many restaurants, shops and bakeries close to the hotel, most if you head north towards Paris. The hotel is very clean and has a good beakfast in th emorning that serves omelets, coffee, pasteries, juices, fruit and cereals. The breakfast was comped us as the elevator did not work during our stay. The Paris electric plugs are round with with two male plugs and one female plug. Our step down converter did not fit the round plug but the hotel saved our photography sessions by loaning us an adapter plug so we could use our US plug. The plugs use 22 volts but most appliance converted work from 110 to 220 V.

The negative - The rooms, bath, beds, and shower are very small! Th eroom was very hot as they use hotwater to heat the rooms. There was no thernstat to control the temp so we opened a window to let the December air in. It made sleeping much easier the last three nights. There is no coffe or tea in the room. The elevator did not work the four days we stayed at the hotel. This required a lot of walking as our room was on the sixth floor. We also had to lug our luggage down the day we left. Luckily the day we arrived they had a strong young man carrying the bags to the rooms. The hotel says they are trilingual but we found that some clerks at the front desk were of much help and some knew little or no English. I don't think this qualifies as being trilingual! If this hotel was in the states it would be a 2* at best. For Paris, this might be a better hotel. Don't know as this was my first stay in the city.

Room Tip: Not sure there are any great rooms at the hotel.

We stayed in Ideal Hotel Design for 2 nights during our honeymoon this December (2011).

Location & Surrounding Safety:
This hotel is very close (about 2 minutes walk, need to cross street though) to the nearest Metro station, which is Porte d'Orléans. It is fairly south and does take at least 10-15 minutes Metro time to get to most attractions (i.e. The Louvre or Champs-Élysées, etc.) This hotel is located in District #14, which is considered an above-average neighborhood in Paris. The area is nice and peaceful, except for police car and ambulance sirens, which seem to be very common in Paris.

Room & Bathroom:
The room has good view of that part of the city. It is nice-sized for an European 3-star hotel. Equipped with one sofa, one queen-size bed, a desk/chair, and some cabinets. The bathroom is a little small but acceptable. Hair dryer is available, but that's about it. You need to prepare you own shampoo, lotion, etc. No tissue paper, and toilet papers are not enough.

Elevator:
This is our biggest complaint and the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4! The elevator was out of order for the entire duration of our stay, and we suspect it has been broken forever. When we asked the front desk when would the elevator be fixed, the lady simply answered "No! It's a complicated problem." Well, we don't know how complicated it could possibly be, but we ended up having to carry our luggage (2 big, 2 small plus personal items) all the way up to the 5th floor. [The lobby is located on the 0 floor, so we actually needed to walk up 6 levels.] The problem with the elevator also made us dread going back to the hotel. Imagine having walk all day for Paris sightseeing and the first thing waiting for you at the hotel is walking 6 levels up to get to your room.

Noise Level:
The window has good sound-proof that blocked out most of the noise on the street. But beware: if you leave the window opened, the street could get very noisy and annoying with sound of siren and honk, which seem to be very common in Paris. The walls are pretty thin, which is expected for European hotels; it's easy to hear people chatting on the hallway. Luckily not many people did that when we stayed there.

Wireless Internet Connection:
They do offer FREE WiFi throughout the hotel. The connection speed is okay.

English Ability:
We had dealing with 2 different French ladies while we stayed there. They both had limited English with strong French accent. But at least communicable.

Food (Breakfast):
We didn't try the breakfast.
