“Good location, get what you pay for in Paris”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

I'll agree the "hotel" tag should be changed to hostel but if you look into where you will be staying: you get what you expect! The location was great, the surrounding shops are good and theres much more down st germain, including a market on thursdays. When we were there, there were renovations being done so I expect it will be nicer once those are over. My biggest complaint was you cannot take the key with you when you leave during the day.. this gets annoying when your in and out and have to keep giving your key to reception and asking for it back upon return. Also do not visit the small restaurant/bar next door on the corner!! worst service and prices we saw in europe!

Although this place is advertised as a hotel, it's more like a hostel with an expensive price tag for what you get. It costs 74 euros for a double room with a shower with no en-suite toilet. The rooms are very basic and not very clean. Also, even after having booked months in advance, I had to change rooms during my three-day visit. It wasn't ideal, because I had to check out after my first night and check in again later the next day and then I was put in a room at the top of the hotel. As there's no lift, I had to climb up a narrowing staircase and dodge the wet walls as there was paint and renovation work going on at the same time! I didn't think this was satisfactory in the slightest after the inconvenience I was put through.
Despite all this, the lady in reception was lovely, and it is a great location, but there must be better hotels that offer better quality for the price in the area. I'll certainly be looking for them for my next visit!

For those coming to Paris, SKIP this place. Firstly, this is NOT a hotel. It is just called a hotel (for fun?). There is no room service and they do not clean your sheets or your room everyday. What's more, you have to pay 2 Euros to use the shower everytime. Honestly, this place is worst than a garbage bin.

Firstly, this place is still undergoing renovation works (note the previous comments about paints getting on jackets, that is still going on!!!), and the smell of paint seeps through the entire place! You can practically forget about sleeping here, unless of course you love the smell of STRONG paint. The proprietor is rude and unconcerned about the fact that paint could cause future respiratory damages to the guests. Simply put, they are more concerned about $$.

You are better off living on the streets~ P.s. Trust the reviews with that put it as "Terrible"

Room Tip: Bring a gas mask and a detergent to wash away the paint smell from you.

The hotel is very old with a bumpy floor, but it is cheap with great location. It's very close to Notre Dame Cathedral and the Sightseeing Bus' stop. I love the bakery in the corner and the man preparing Crepes with Nutella.

Room Tip: Choose a room with shower.

The website does not correspond at all! It could be a sinple hotel, but still a good one.. But that that's not what happens. There is no elevator, and the stairs are not ok. The walls are being peinted, so the corridors are a big mass!
You pay for something and you receive another.. Thats not cool.

We stayed in Hotel du Commerce for four nights. It is in a great location, 5 minutes from Notre Dame and less than a minute to the nearest metro station. The hotel is easy enough to locate, although the rooms don't seem to be in any logical numbering order. They were doing some renovations when we visited, and there was some noise from them working on the other rooms and various tools left in the hallways and stairs. We had 55 stairs to our room and there are no elevators. You are not permitted to keep your room key when you leave the hotel, but there is a 24 hour reception so this was never an issue. The reception area had a computer and printer for guest use.

Our room was small but clean and comfortable, with a window out to the street, a desk and a sink. There was plenty of hot water and the bed was fine. The toilet was just across the hall, which was convenient. The showers are on the first floor, so you have to go down stairs to take one, and they charge 2 euros per shower. There is quite a bit of mold on the shower ceilings though the showers themselves were clean enough.

The wireless internet worked well, and the room included soap and (very small) towels.

There is a bar next door as well as a lot of random street noise that makes this place quite noisy at night. Typically it was noisy until 3am or so. Perhaps rooms on the inside of the building would be fine. Considering the price and location, not a bad place.
