We stayed at this hotel for a week on our last trip to Paris. I didn't see any rooms except ours but I think we had one of the (or THE) nicest rooms in the place because we often got asked how we liked the room. I think it had just been remodeled because it wasn't a new hotel but this room looked new. It was on e 5th floor with 69 steps to climb every day. Lugging the bags was hard but we did get used to it after a week.
The location of the hotel was both good and bad. It is very close to St. Denis metro station which was very convenient to most everything we wanted. It is a few metro stops from Les Halle's which we went to for some nice meals. It is Not close to the expensive shopping areas. The downside was that I didn't really like the area that much. It seemed a bit seedy to me although it turned out fine.
The room was still simple but had an en-suite bathroom with a nice glass door and rock floor. The whole restroom was the shower as well and unfortunately the water didn't drain well so we almost always had puddles of water in there.
The window to the street was nice but even 5floors up it was very very noisy. It was more quiet on Sunday but every other day it was noisy all day and most of the night. Parisians love their horns!
We got the room for about 85€ per night so I would recommend this to budget travelers but not anyone that wants a special experience. Also, I didn't think it was particularly "French" either so it wasn't even "shabby chic". It's a room for a fair price in a fairly convenient location. (Note: the metro made it convenient, not the location itself.)
