This fine restaurant is somewhat hidden at the corner of two small streets not far from the Elysée Palace. The main dining area is crowded and not very appealing. There are three small booths on the other side of the restaurant perfect for an intimate dinner for 2 or 4. The food is exquisite but somewhat pricey.

It's a smallish modern restaurant, without the bells and whistles and fuss of more expensive traditional places. There are no tablecloths, a small often-changing menu, and a limited wine list. We went for lunch, and at 39 Euros, three courses is great value for the quality. My first course was an elegant version of a traditional Burgundian dish, oeufs en meurette, eggs poached in red wine. A single egg, cooked at low temperature, with spinach, little croutons and lardons, and an exquisite wine-based sauce. Main course was a slice of cabillaud (like cod) on an eggplant puree, surrounded by dollops of perfect sauce bearnaise. Missing were the eggplant chips that were meant to accompany the dish (and were there on everyone else's). Dessert was an enterprising combination of strawberries and beetroot in various forms, with some fresh cream-like cheese and fresh mint. It's thoughtful and skilled cooking, the service is excellent, the atmosphere fresh, and the prices friendly. It's possible to eat much more cheaply, or more expensively, but it's hard to eat as well as this without spending a great deal more. Recommended wine is the Vezelay blanc, thanks to the chef's father, Marc Meneau, who is one of the finest and most imaginative chefs in the country. Crom'Exquis name is a play on cromesquis, the little fritters that are available as an extra to start, with or without a glass of champagne.

We dined here for lunch last October, and found the food and service wonderful, so returned on this stay in Paris to try dinner.

The welcome was again warm, with seating at a nice table. We started with the specialty, light cubes of dough filled with a mixture of foie gras and truffles in a warm liquid. The taste was sublime, flavorful, yet not overwhelming. The amusé bouche was elegant as well – a tartare of salmon.

The menu choices were more than sufficient – a half-dozen or so appealing entrées, plus plats encompassing several fish and meat dishes. We started with the fresh asparagus with shaved parmesan and a delicate sauce, all perfectly done. For the plats we tried the Turbot, and bar (sea bass). The Turbot was prepared with a meat sauce reduction, perhaps an unlikely pairing, but an incredible result. The bar was moist and tender, served with a small dish of perfectly-done risotto.

For dessert, they recommended slices of pineapple, lightly cooked in olive oil, and served with a green apple sorbet; refreshing and delicate, the perfect ending to the meal.

The wine list is limited but more than adequate, with selections from throughout France. We chose the Vezelay blanc, a full-bodied white Burgundy that went well with all of our dishes.

The service was delightful throughout the meal, with smiles and warm conversation adding to the enjoyment of the evening.

A nice personal farewell from the young chef, Pierre Meneau and the exquisite food will bring us back again.
