Now that I've been to La Vie d'Ange, I'm baffled by its Trip Advisor rating as one of the top restaurants in Paris. The husband and wife owners are delightful people, and the food and wine here are quite good, but I can't understand how it is rated at #22 - not in a city with many fantastic restaurants. Thierry and Aida offer a limited bistro menu that emphasizes fresh ingredients and uncomplicated, well prepared dishes. The location is somewhat out of the way, and the restaurant is quite small and simply decorated. If you go here with realistic expectations, you'll be very happy, but if other travelers' ratings lead you to believe that you're going to an elegant Paris restaurant with exceptional fare, La Vie D'Ange will disappoint you. While our group of four was there for dinner, several very nicely dressed people walked out - probably because they expected a fancier restaurant.

Dear Betsy
many thanks for this nice comment which allow us to emphasize on something very important : tripadvisor is NOT a gastronomic guide !!!!
it is a social network where guests give their global feeling about the restaurant they visited (food quality, but also ambiance and welcome).
If we have a high ranking in tripadvisor, it doesn't mean we are at the same level that what you can expect from a 3 star restaurant with a brigade of dozens brilliant cooks in the kitchen !!!! It just means that people that visited our restaurant were HAPPY of their experience.
We are a very small team, and we just try to work hard every day in order to provide tasty dishes, exclusively home-made with fresh products, to offer a wide selection of the wines we love, and to welcome our guests with a little bit more than just a polite smile :-)
For those who want to pay a multi-hundred euros meal, they will find the addresses in many specialized guides.
We prefer to welcome people looking for authenticity and conviviality.
We will be happy to see you again if you come back to Paris

The restaurant's website is misleading. The food is average and some dishes doesn't seem to be home-made (again despite the general image given by the website). The service however is very good and very friendly.

I've come to really appreciate Trip Advisor advice, and when I saw the positive ratings on this restaurant, I decided to stop by after the Catacombs visit. It's actually not close to the catacombs exit, but to its entrance, however I trekked back, and am glad I did.

I was on my own and I stopped in just after they'd opened for lunch and was the first customer on a rainy day. That notwithstanding, I was cheerily greeted. He was understanding of my broken french and not condescending about it, offering me my choice of french or english menu. I thought it would be more fun to muddle in french and my host was gracious about it. The food was just as one would hope it would be for the type of restaurant - prompt, clean, tasty, and well presented, and he made a nice wine recommendation from what is clearly an ample and well thought out wine inventory. From the soup which was perfect for a rainy day, to the steak and fiingerling potatos, the food was bistro fine.

More than that, as most folks know, the ambiance of a place and the service can make or break a meal regardless of the quality of the food, and the owner of this restaurant clearly makes it his business to treat his customers well, and he seems to enjoy it, and that really shows.

I strongly recommend this restaurant if you want an enjoyable french restaurant experience while in Paris.

On the basis of the extremely high trip advisor rating we went to this restaurant. Although the owner of this restaurant is charming and his service is faultless the food failed to live up to any culinary standards. It was yet another mediocre meal in a city that is renowned for its haute cuisine. All four meals were very average as was the desert and I certainly cannot rank it as one of the top ten restaurants in Paris.

YOU WERE NOT AT THE GOOD PLACE CONSIDERING YOUR WAITINGS!

We are small a French bristro of district which makes a point of making discover the real taste of the fresh good product, cooked natural without fuss and others, we are not spangled and try to make share our philosophy of the kitchen who is completely unknown for you and to which you did not adhere.

Once again we are not there to impress with the visual one, one comes on our premises for well eating and not contemplating a table worthy of the great painters.

If you are in search of the very high-class cooking document rather in the guides dedicated to that, but it is also necessary to agree to pay the price which him sied, a gourmet's menu with 21 €!
give me the receipt.

Cordially
