Its point of interest is that it passes behind the replica of The Statue of Liberty and crosses the Seine ,connecting the 15th & 16th arrondissements while passing through Ille aux Cygnes,a tree lined artificial island. Well, if that not enough to draw your attention or interest,i don't know ,what does!!
It is constructed of steel and is a girder bridge offering superb photographic angles of either side of the river. another string to its bow of fame was while in its original form,it suffered imminent collapse under the weight of increased traffic ,as a result of a celebration given to the Shah of Persia, in 1873.
This incident swung the decision to replace it with a six-arch cast iron bridge which today bears two main metal spans of 85 m crossing two branches of the Seine,a 20m span above the Ille de Cygnes plus two 15 m concrete spans over the Right and Left bank expressways.
The panorama from the Pont is superb and due to it being well off the tourist routes, not many visitors come here. Yyeeeppee!! The 9 m high scale replica of the Statue of liberty faces New York and was given by the US to France for the Universal Fair.
