Been to Paris 4 or 5 times and done the Eiffel Tower twice. Wanted to come here but never quite made it. Delighted to have made it today! The main advantage Montparnasse has over Eiffel is ease of use. No queues, no crowds, loads of space!! This is a rooftop, 56 storeys high! In Paris!! It costs 12 Euros to go up and from ground to roof took us about 10 minutes. The views are absolutely incredible, as you can imagine and they include the Eiffel. Here you have time and space to enjoy one of the most iconic views in Europe. Amazingly, they don't seem to appreciate what they've got themselves - the 56th floor itself is weird with loads of empty space, few chairs and a mediocre cafe. The roof would make an amazing bar/cafe but they haven't bothered!! So - loads of space, stunning view, nowhere to get a drink! Bizarre!

Forget those quibbles though - if it's your first time in Paris go to Montparnasse not Eiffel. Cheaper, quicker, easier, and arguably better views!

Bearing in mind we visited in holiday season (July), we were in the elevator within 5 minutes of walking in to the building! But it's not just that. This is a genuinely underrated gem, which will give you unforgettable views and memories.

Whether on the 56th or 59th floor, you'll get stunning views all over Paris. Tour Montparnasse doesn't actually look that nice - which is just as well because on the roof, you obviously can't see it - instead you can look at the much more impressive structure of the Eiffel, with unspoiled views. I also suffer from Vertigo but since the lift to the 56th floor and the stairs to the 59th are enclosed, it was perfect as I never felt uncomfortable. The roof terrace is surrounded by clear panels with wide gaps for you to put your camera through. Great for people who are afraid of heights.

We went at sunset so not only saw a pink sky behind the Eiffel Tower, but saw it sparkle and flash with its thousands of bulbs in the night sky. ** DISCOUNT TIP ** We stayed at Hotel Le M, who offer Tour Montparnasse tickets for €10 instead of €13. Not sure if any other hotels in the area offer the same discount but it'd worth investigating.

Tour Montparnasse is an unmissable, unforgettable attraction with the best views over Paris. And you won't have to queue for 3 hours in the baking heat to go up.

Initially I had quite mixed feelings about Tour Montparnasse. I thought €13.50 wasn't that unreasonable to get up there, there was no queuing, and the staff were friendly and helpful, but once up there it felt overwhelmingly busy, not necessarily because of the people but because of where the souvenir shop is placed and because you are immediately funnelled into a spot for them to take your photograph. We declined that offer, but it was a slightly hectic way to start off!

If you are only going up for a quick look I can see that it would feel like a rip-off, even though the panoramic views are spectacular. Instead we decided to get some drinks from the bar (not cheap at €5 a glass of wine, but not as extortionate as it could be either) and set up camp in a quiet corner away from the main drag. I'm not entirely sure that you're allowed to do that, but nobody told us that we couldn't (perhaps because we were being pretty well behaved). It was beautiful and when it go too hot inside we'd go up to the panoramic terrace to cool off in the breeze. There's no time limit on the duration of your stay, so I would definitely recommend finding your own little bit of it and taking in views of one of the most beautiful cities in the world at your leisure.

The view from the top of the tower was very nice even on an overcast day. They have a simple café at the top which served adequate food. They have signs all around to tell you what you’re looking at and it wasn’t very crowded at all. I can’t imagine spending more than an hour here are grand total and I would not make a special trip just to visit this but it’s a nice to get your bearings on your first day.

An unmissable 360 degree view of Paris and all of its sights! With a Paris Visite card we got 30% discount! Although you don't spend a long time here, it's definitely worth the view and afterwards you can quickly get to the Jardin du Luxembourg which is superb
