“Bridge of Love is a waste of metal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

It's a lovely idea, really. Place a lock on a bridge and throw the key away in the river. Very romantic. It ends up, though, being a massive amount of metal contamination in the river, and every 6 months or so they come cut off all the locks and throw them away! Better idea to put the lock in some secret place in your town, or in Paris if you must, and mail yourselves the keys! Just a thought! :)

“Locks of love”

A very romantic gesture. We placed a lock on this bridge too. You just had to join in with the thousands of other couples.

“Adding a lock is illegal vandalism”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

I am appalled by the number of reviewers who are encouraging people to add a lock to this bridge. This is vandalism of the infrastructure of Paris. It's like adding graffiti to the Mona Lisa. It is also illegal. These locks prevent the bridge structure from being maintained, causing rust and corrosion from both the locks and the unmaintained bridge. By all means celebrate your love, but not by damaging the city that you have come to admire. This was an elegant bridge, but sadly no more.

“Lock Lips - Not Locks !”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

I am a resident of Paris, and cross this bridge each week to get ice cream on Ile St Louis. I am one of the people whose tax money pays for the repair and maintenance of the bridges and monuments of this great city. I am asking you to stop vandalizing public property in Paris. You have spent a lot of hard-earned money to get here and admire the beauty of one of the oldest cities in Europe. It is a shame that you have to look at garbage - for this is what it is.

It started with a few padlocks, but now there are hundreds of thousands of them on the bridges of Paris. Along with padlocks, people tie garbage bags, belts, socks, underwear, dog collars, chains, and bicycle locks to this - and other - bridges here. It is not romantic. It is not cool. It is vandalism, and it is a crime.

I guarantee that you would not allow this in your backyard, your hometown, or on any national historical monument where you live. Think about this. There are many other ways to express your love to someone you care about, than clamping a piece of garbage on a historical monument. This was a charming idea in a novel, but it is not at all charming in real life.

Tax money in Paris is used to maintain and repair bridges, roadways, monuments and museums, as well as keeping you safe while you stroll around admiring the sights. I'm sure you would prefer this money be spent on targeting pickpockets, rather than repairing vandalized bridges.

Just don't do it. Lock lips, not locks! Thank you.

“What a sad sight..”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

How sad that this lovely bridge has been defaced by ignorant people thinking that there is some kind of tradition of adding ugly bits of metal to a bridge.
This is a dreadful eyesore and I hope anyone who is considering adding to the problem will reconsider and do something else in this lovely city.
