“perfect for a one-night stay in Paris in a great location”
Reviewed February 19, 2011

Stayed here for one night with my mother on a shopping trip to Paris. Perfect location for us in the Marais. Tiny little room, but room for two beds and our bags (just!) but not bad sized and qiute pretty bathroom. Definitely three star, but that's all we were after. Nice guy at reception who was very helpful. Didn't have breakfast there - why would you with all the cafes of Paris on your doorstep?!

great hotel, lovely comfy beds, slight noise from other rooms, but nothing major.
rooms cleaned daily, with fresh towels.
in a great location,
staff most helpful and polite.
Value for money. Breakfast is a typical French style breakfast,
Will stay here again if i return to Paris ( Hopefully)

Utilitarian, small room in a great neighborhood with a metro stop nearly outside the front door. The staff spoke little english, but were fine. They recommended a nice restaurant and changed the towels whenever we used them. There is a rather small lift/elevator.

Regretfully we could only stay one night.

Lovely attention to detail in interior decoration. Very close to the main (Notre Dame, Louvre, Opera) attractions and best shopping areas of Paris (the Marais). Also easy walk to main Metro stations for airport access.

Very helpful staff in arranging transport, providing information.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for two nights. On the first morning I was suffering badly from morning sickness (being four months pregnant). The breakfast area was very warm and airless. I was unable to eat breakfast and decided to take a croissant and a pear to eat later. The lady from the breakfast area immediately reported me to the hotel receptionist, who promptly tackled me about removing food from the breakfast area in front of other hotel guests. I explained that I was feeling unwell, yet she remained cold and indignant. I walked away feeling extremely embarrassed. The next morning the staff in the breakfast area were rude and unfriendly. We were forced to ask for a drink whereas the other guests were served with theirs. I have written to the manager with a complaint.

It's such a shame because even though the rooms are expensive; they are clean and the location is good. The service has put me off of returning.

We booked online via a third party website which dealt with three-star hotels in the Marais in Paris which purport to have both charm and character. The photos looked nice and everything seemed exactly what we were looking for, and we were prepared to spend a little more than usual to really enjoy our 6 day sojourn in Paris, so we booked 5 nights. The cancellation policy on the confirmation stated that if the booking was cancelled or modified 3 days or more beforehand, there would be no charge, and if later than that, one night would be charged. So far so good.

We arrived and checked out the room we'd been allocated - a 'deluxe' room, the highest level of 3 they offered, for which we were charged the rack rate. The room was definitely not good enough for 170E per night. Very basic, charmless, smelled overpoweringly of toilet freshener, a tiny double bed with bad mattress, all white with no attempt at homeliness or decoration or anything at all. An inside window without balcony looked into a narrow courtyard with building works. You expect small in Paris but this was a 2 star room at 3 star or more prices; we've stayed in Paris several times and have stayed in far better rooms for half the price so we weren't willing to settle.

We left, got on the internet and found a cheaper room in a 4 star hotel on the Left bank on Wotif.com, and went back to the hotel to tell the owner we would be checking out in the morning. We expected to pay the first night's accommodation, as per the policy, but Madame told us that we would be charged for 2 nights if we did that, for who knows what reason. After a small altercation, we called the other hotel, who said that the room would be available to us that night for the discount online price, grabbed our bags and went downstairs to check out immediately. We were prepared to pay for one night of course, but Madame issued us an invoice for 2 nights accommodation - 344E - for a room we would not even be occupying! We showed her the hotel's cancellation policy again, and stood our ground, but it was only when new guests arrived in the door that she ungraciously gave way.

In future, I would be more willing to ask for a better room if the one we're given isn't up to scratch, but failing that I don't see how we could have avoided this happening again. Wotif.com is a fantastic website and we have stayed in terrific hotels for bargain prices all over Europe. I highly recommend using it if you don't have your heart set on a particular hotel or area. And I also recommend that you carefully check the cancellation policy when booking a hotel ahead of time (because it's impossible to see the room before agreeing to book, of course!) and print it out so you can show it to dodgy proprietors who try to rip you off.

For the record, our new hotel where we are right now, the Villa Pantheon, is much much better with very friendly and helpful staff and a great location near the Sorbonne, and with breakfast included we are actually saving money, even allowing for the 170E penalty charge from the Ecole Centrale!
