“Clean and excellent value in a fantastic location”
Reviewed January 12, 2011

After reading some previous reviews stating that the MIJE hostels were infested with bedbugs, I was a little worried - however, I can safely say that my bed in a 6-bed dorm was clean and comfortable and I did not get a single bite during the 2 nights I was there. The staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke decent English. The bathrooms were very clean (note: bring your own soap), and the architectural details of this 17th Century building were an additional treat. I appreciated the free luggage storage and lockers, in a locked room - I felt very secure leaving my luggage there before I checked in and after I checked out. The breakfast could have been better. But best of all was the location - 2 minutes' walk to the Seine and all its attractions, with the Notre Dame just a stone's throw away. Despite the presence of a couple of school/language student groups, it was quiet and calm at this time of year. Definitely recommended to anyone looking for a no-fuss place to stay on a budget in Paris.

As a hostel the location is just great, it located right at the center of Paris. The area is nice and close to hotel de ville, there are lots of restaurants, shops and bars. Service is nice and speaks good English. Hotel it self is a very old and historical building. Considering the price room is not big and bed is not really comfortable. But it is far compare to the price of the room. There are 6, 4, 2 and 1 bed room. Even the 1 bed room is only 50 euro per night, which is a great deal for the location and the cleanness of the room.

Paris is not an easy city in which to find good, affordable accommodation, making the MIJE offering (there are two other nearby hostels) an excellent option.

As others have mentioned, there are a few quirks arising from the primary focus on youth & school groups; the insistence on re-confirming bookings the day before, the curfew hours, the fixed breakfast, the single beds in all rooms. However, if you can handle these, you’ll get extremely secure & clean accommodation in one of the best parts of Paris.

Our six-day stay coincided with a heatwave, making the lack of air-conditioning a challenge (the radiator looked as if it would do a good job in winter!), but it was quiet enough most nights to leave the windows open for cooler air.

The in-room shower and sink were great, and the rooms are well designed to provide lots of storage in a relatively small space. Toilets were opposite our room, and were always clean. Unfortunately, internet access was limited to a primitive kiosk on the ground floor. Whilst Paris provides free wi-fi in most of its parks, it would have been nice to look things up from our room.

Some may not enjoy the sloping central staircase, or the crashing doors in the morning as adolescents run in and out of their rooms, but there’s something neat about staying in a converted 18th century mansion, complete with delightful courtyard in which to eat your breakfast.

Two metro stations (St Paul & Pont Marie) are within a couple of minutes walk, and the whole Marais area is bustling with history, bars & cafes. We’d happily stay at MIJE again on a future visit.

I had a really great time staying at MIJE - great location, clean rooms. Would definitely stay there again.

I had some difficulty finding this hotel initially - I stumbled upon the other MIJE hostels and asked for directions.

Excellent location! It can't be better than that. You're close to the metro and in walking distance of a lot of the attractions. The hostel is close to supermarkets and restaurants, so that's not a problem.
Even if the hostel is situated in an old (but gorgeous) building, the interior is rather modern. The courtyard was awesome, especially at night to relax. My room was rather small, but I don't think that's the case for all the rooms (even if it is, who would want to stay in their room all day when you could be in the streets of Paris). If you're looking for a party hostel, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a decent place to sleep in an historic neighborhood, you found it. :)

For Paris, this was an amazing hostel. Coveted location, Beautiful old building, clean bathrooms and good security. But. The Staff are atrocious. The rudeness - amazing - and completely uncalled for. Was shouted down the phone by them, argued with them about reservations that had been confirmed and reconfirmed seemingly billions of times and often faced jeery remarks. Its fascinating that whoever owns this place has everything right, but just overseas the one big flaw that ruined everything about it.
Most importantly, I would warn people interested to DEFINITELY reconfirm their booking before midday, or else they cancel it - no matter how many times you follow everything up. The number of people who end up upset about it is part of the MIJE daily routine.

This is a hostel where the location is great and the room we are in is clean. One particular staff is very helpful and gave us a lot of suggestions on where to get good food. The area and the surroundings are good and safe. Will definitely recommend this hotel for anyone on a budget.
