“Pleasantly surprised”

Clearly this hotel has undergone a recent renovation (the older photos should be ignored as they are out of date and the hotel and rooms now look fresh and modern). The hotel is indeed budget as reflected in the name and the price but for a clean, comfortable and value for money stay look no further.

We used this hotel as a three night base for first visit to Paris to take in all the sights of this beautiful city. The hotel is a short (five minute maximum) walk from the metro station (Jaures). From here it's about a 15-20 journey to the centre of Paris with at least one change necessary on Paris' fantastic metro system.

The room was small but what more do you need from a hotel room than a comfortable bed, TV, toilet and shower!? A wardrobe would have been nice but there is a small rail and hangers supplied to have the odd shirt. The shower and sink were actually in the bedroom which could be awkward if the room isn't inhabited by an intimate couple and the toilet was behind a kind of cupboard door which didn't give complete audible privacy.

The reception staff spoke fantastic English and our requests for extra pillows were promptly met. Other facilities such as hair-dryers and irons are available on request from reception and loaned for half an hour periods.

We booked the breakfast option for our stay and again the standard was sufficient but budget. A range of bread for toasting, baguettes, croissants and cereals were available. Cheese, fruits and yoghurt was also available along with a range of juices and coffee machines provided decent options.

All in all this was a pleasant stay with great value for money in this expensive city. We booked directly from the IBIS website and paid around £48 a night with breakfast included. So to recap what more could you want from a budget hotel than a freshly renovated, clean and comfortable hotel in a decent neighbourhood with friendly and helpful staff?

As quick note regarding the neighbourhood Jaures, it felt quite safe to stroll around at night as a couple. The canal has recently undergone a huge transformation and has been modernised and is a nice place couples and friends to share a drink together on a warm evening. Also the supermarket next door was a mega convenience.

Room Tip: We were on the sixth floor and enjoyed three peaceful nights.

We (2 adults & 1 boy of 9 years old) stayed here for 2 nights and personally, that would be the maximum for me. The rooms are really tiny. The neighbourhood is ok, I did not feel unsafe. There's a supermarket next to the hotel. The metro stop is just a few minutes away which can take you to downtown Paris in 15 minutes. The parking is just 10 euro. The price for the room was 70. If I would have booked earlier, it would only be 60. I would stay here again, but only for a maximum of 2 nights.

Room Tip: Try to get a room not near the elevator. The elevators make quite some noice.

When we stayed the corridor was a building site with workmen drilling, tools everywhere, rubble and we had to do our best to not trip over. The room was not only too hot to sleep in but the noise from the main road was so loud there was no point in windows - all night long.

The bed was awful, may as well have slept on the floor and I could barely move the next day. The toilet is basically in the room itself with a swing door allowing gaps at bottom and top - not great for concealing noise or smells!!
