“just as dreamy as the city of Paris!”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Original during our stay in Paris. The hotel is a little small but I'm thinking most hotels in Paris are this size. Such a convenient location with so many different choices of restaurants nearby. Taxis were easily accessible and the train was literally a few steps away. The staff!!!! Everybody was so kind and helpful. Being tourists we asked about 10 questions every day. From nyc we're not use to this type of kindness haha. If we ever visit Paris again, which i hopeeeee we will, I would definitely come back here!

Hello,
Wow!!! We were so happy to read your comment about your stay with us! A big thank you and a big Hello from all the staff here :) No worries, you were great and it was our pleasure to have you here and able to help you out. NYC guests don't have such a reputation and on the contrary....so that said, it will be with pleasure to have you back :) We hope all is well on your side and we hope this is just a short "au revoir".
Sincerely,
Fabien

Booked this hotel for a birthday weekend. Location was good for Le Marais if you dont mind a stroll. We found a brilliant little restaurant very close by which i will review separately but for us location was fine. We also found a very good bar on our last night(!) - turn right out of the hotel and then first right and it is on the left. You would walk past without noticing it but it was great - very good atmosphere for a night cap.

The hotel was not somewhere you would want to spend a lot of time. We were in the Argent room (everything and I mean EVERYTHING silver). It had the setting of a 70s porn movie without the ambience to provide the passion to go with it! Very very small room. Wash basin in the room not separately but this seems to be the trend.

A bar is mentioned I believe in the spiel but it is actually a cubby hole with nowhere to actually sit and have a drink apart from a stark breakfast area which was SO uninviting.

We had breakfast in our room on the last day and a very nice smiley lady brought it to us. The pastries were delicious and the coffee good so at least that made us feel a bit better about our stay.

Three nights living inside a Christmas bauble was probably one night too many.......

we stayed here at the weekend and we both love design hotels with a bit of quirkiness, this place has it in abundance, when you first walk in you are confronted by a fibre optic jelly fish from the ceiling and at the desk fibre optics are hanging from the ceiling as well ( bonkers ). the hotel is small by really comfortable, cant tell you what the other rooms looked like but we were upgraded to the alice in wonderland suit ( i thought it was going to be really tacky but was pleasantly surprised to find it edging more on the darker side of lewis carol and not disney)
nice touch is the free iphone app to help you maximise your stay in paris and descent wifi through out the hotel

Hello,
Thank you so much for the great comment. A box of frogs?? That's us! :)
We're so happy that the decor of the Hotel pleased you that much and to know you were positively surprised by your room. Quirkiness is indeed not a misnomer as you could see when entering our universe...and we're proud of it.
It was our pleasure to meet you and have you stay with us, we hope your return home went well. Do not hesitate to give us news and come again for further quirky parisian adventures :)
Sincerely,
Fabien

Tiny rooms with odd furniture, no desk, totally inappropriate for business. In a not great part of town more near car fix it shops. The staff was ok if non existent, no bar and a very uncomfortable looking dining room which I did not want to venture to.

Hello,
We have well received your comment in regards to your stay at the Hotel and we thank you for that. We have to say this does come a bit as a surprise and we are sorry to hear that, really. The staff at the reception, hearing you found the room on the 6th floor too small, proposed you a bigger room, which you still did not appreciate, and we finally proposed you our biggest room in the Hotel, our familial room, which seemed not to have pleased you neither... We feel we actually did our possible and more, to accomodate you best at the Hotel. We are sorry that in the end nothing we have done fulfilled your needs or expectations. We understand that while the decor and atmosphere does not have to please everyone, we feel it as a little unnecesary and actually inaccurate the mention of the location of the Hotel and the know how of the staff...Quite on the contrary, our guests are pleased to be pretty much center in Paris with all their needs just a short distance away, and that the staff in general is very accomodating and in comm , all this as evidenced in just about all our comments received so far on TripAdvisor. That said, we hope this will not let you have a teinted image of the City of Light and that you could feel unwelcomed if you would happen to pass by again...quite on the contrary :)
Sincerely,
Fabien

The hotel is in a great location, lots of bars close by and underground public parking! The rooms are all different colours I was in the gold room, very small but perfectly formed.. Only concern no bathroom door, I hung a towel up to save my modesty as it faced the french windows that opened onto the balcony.the breakfast room all in white is nice as was the foodi think the prices were average for Paris and I would definately go back for a long weekend, but the rooms to small for any longer..,

One doesn't go to Paris for the hotels. The successful Parisian hotel is the one which is remembered for providing comfortable a comfortable place to rest between days and nights of exploration. Perhaps the hotel should hardly be remembered at all --

My first impression of the Hotel Original in the Bastille district of Paris was rather underwhelming. Arriving right at the check-out and breakfast rush, it took the front desk a longer moment to process my arrival. Upon speaking with a member of staff, I was informed that my room was not ready (so much I had anticipated.) And while the staff provided me with a internet password, the lobby was cramped and crowded. The internet too was slow and difficult to initiate a connection.

Upon check-in some hours later, my biggest concern was the possibility of hauling my luggage up six flights of stairs. Not to fear -- the elevator took me right to the top! I opened the door to my room, and was smacked in the face with the type of view one only dreams about. Partially this was a result of my room being minutely small. But mostly I was stunned by the Eiffel Tower, standing there, glorious for my beholding.

I also noticed the tub, which was in the bedroom itself. At first I found this arrangement somewhat off-putting and awkward, however as my stay progressed, I began to truly enjoy bathing in view of the Eiffel Tower and the facade of a Baroque church nearby. The toilet, I am happy to report, was tucked neatly away in a small closet.

The staff at the hotel were magnificent, particularly the housekeepers who seemed to know when I was in, and when I was not. This was particularly important as the "Do Not Disturb" feature was broken.

For my stay, the location of the hotel was ideal. Very close to a large Metro station (Bastille) but more importantly, the home of my friend. There always seemed to be a lot going on nearby, but the hotel itself was remarkably quiet.

Perhaps the best Parisian hotels are forgettable. Yet it is hard to forget the Hotel Original. With its funky chandeliers, exotic rooms and brilliant views of the city, it provided far more than a comfortable bed. With fantastic style and a healthy dose of quirk the hotel became like the city itself: a dream destination.

First of all we would like to thank you for posting a great comment in regards to your trip with us at the Hotel. We have to admit that the happy ending of being "in fact not forgettable" pleased us much, we laughed to be blunt :)
We are glad that you enjoyed the room up under the roofs of Paris, and yes indeed what can be better than taking a bath, relaxing, with the Eiffel tower standing tall in front of you...
We hope your terun home went well and you have a big Hello from all the Staff here.

Stayed here as a family in August 2012 for 4 nights! The room could be considered small, but very clean and great bathroom. We stayed in the Alice in Wonderland room and it had interesting purple, black and red decor, with a double bed and two single beds, separated by curtains, very comfy and perfect for our 14 and 12 year old kids. The bathroom was spacious with 2 sinks with snazzy waterfall taps, the toilet room was separate to the shower room which was useful; however it was very small. The only criticism of the room would be the view, which was of a run down courtyard, but this didn't matter because we spent little time in the room as we were out seeing the sights. The staff were friendly and helpful, with good wi-fi access, and the whole hotel was very modern and trendy. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, but the breakfast room was clean and smart. The hotel was full of funky fibre-optic lighting, magic!
The location is good, at the Bastille opera and a short walk from the Notre Dame. There is easy access to the metro which is cheaper than the London underground and we managed to buy 3 day passes. As we did not eat breakfast in the hotel, there were lots of local places, ranging from McDonalds to patisseries and there was always yummy pastries available at a euro or so. The negatives about the area were that there was a huge amount of homeless people near the hotel, especially children which was upsetting; however this seemed to be the case all over Paris. Another problem was the lack of restaurants locally for dinner, where many places were bars and pubs, and the food was very expensive. That being said, we found some great restaurants a bit further away in the Place de Voges, which was very pretty and with the warm weather the 10 minute walk in the evening was not a problem.
We loved our stay at the hotel original, would definitely stay again! :)
