Great galleries, shopping, food scene, and general strolling. See the Picasso Museum for sure and then have a falafel in the Jewish Quarter. Restaurants around the Place de Vosges are mostly great.

We’ve been to Paris each year since 2016 & stayed in an AirBnB apartment or flat in the Marais each time. We’ve seen all of Paris & think nothing compares to the Marais. Both busy thoroughfares ( but not too many) and quiet side streets. Some of the oldest & most charming buildings in the city and cool, quiet parks. Easy walks to many tourist sites such as Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle & Left Bank, short metro to most others. And plenty of its own—e.g., Picasso Museum, Centre Georges Pompidou, Place des Vosges—& special museums off the usual tourist track—Arts & Metiers, Nature & la Chasse, Museum of Jewish history , Shoah Memorial. Fine shops & eateries. Toward the southern portion it’s become a gay mecca that we (a straight couple) find adds to the vitality.

There is so much Jewish history in the Le Marais area. We enjoyed a tour of this district with Flora Goldenberg, who was informative and full of knowledge about Le Marais. The Shoah (Holocaust) Museum was powerful, and true to the treatment of the Jews in France during the second world war, as terrible, painful, and embarrassing as this history may be.

We took a food tour through this older part of town and the authentic cuisine is worth the visit! You can enjoy a full range of Parisian and many other types of food as well.

We had prepared our visit and loosely followed a walking tour from a guide book. Really enjoyed the morning in this fun and quirky neighbourhood and even returned in the evening for dinner. We looked at bakeries, perfumeries and so many other shops. A huge range of food is available and we had a hard time deciding on flavours and places.
