Owner description: Located on a land-filled swamp, this revitalized neighborhood, once a center of high culture, fell into disrepair following the French Revolution, but has regained prominence.

Yes when im stuck for somewhere relaxing this is my zone. Between the Pompeedoo and Saint Paul this, as others note, is a place to relax and take sone deep breaths.

Love it.

This area is what Paris is suppose to look like, parks and small, cozy streets with four story buildings, many turn of the century chateaus. . Just walk and find the Picasso Museum, boutiques, restaurants, and street entertainers, or just people watch.

Nice area with lots of galleries and shops to see. Small streets give it a cool feel. Lots of tourists.

Nice to stroll around observing people, to shop or have a glass one of the cafees or bars in the area.

My husband, two daughters (ages 11 and 14) and I rented an apartment for two weeks on a street adjacent to the Place des Vosges and loved this area. We rented through Haven in Paris, which was a fabulous experience. The Place des Vosges is beautiful, and the area has many nice shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Metro stop " Bastille" was the one we used. The Victor Hugo house museum and the Musee Carnavalet are within a few blocks of each other, both are free, and both were very interesting and worth seeing. It wasn't too far of a walk to Pere Lachaise cemetery, either. We loved all the unique shops, the cafes and restaurants in the Marais were busy but friendly and relaxing. We always felt safe and comfortable in this area, and would not hesitate to stay here again. Les Petite Marches was a favorite neighborhood restaurant that we went to a few times!
