Owner description: Located on a land-filled swamp, this revitalized neighborhood, once a center of high culture, fell into disrepair following the French Revolution, but has regained prominence.

Good restaurants and great shops and boutiques. Close to many sites and the metro. Busy, but not crowded. Had a great stay in a flat here!

The Marais district was extremely hard to find. The Jewish museum in this district was very enlightening.

One of the oldest and most chic neighborhoods of Paris this is my favorite place to stroll. The medieval buildings date back to the 1200's. the restaurants and brasseries are quaint. All of them have a special flair. Enjoy the sites and then sit down for a coffee or hot chocolate and watch the people. Plus the Pont Marie to Ile St Loius is close for a great view of the Seine.

Often missed by most tourists who come to Paris, which is not necessarily such a bad thing, the Marais neighbourhood has a poetic vibe of its own. Filled with museums (Pompidou, Picasso etc.) the finest to visit is the Musee Carnavalet (two buildings and gardens). The Carnavalet is about the history of Paris expressed in art form. As well, you can experience the unusual boutiques, brasseries, and shops in this neighbourhood - often at much less cost than other areas in Paris.

Had fun on a walking tour of the area. So much of interest and a wonderful buzz. Had an excellent lunch at a restaurant but can't remember the name - long queues outside for Sunday brunch/lunch.
