Owner description: Located on a land-filled swamp, this revitalized neighborhood, once a center of high culture, fell into disrepair following the French Revolution, but has regained prominence.

Cosy neighborhood. By a book with tips about the streets and shops. Nice restaurants and small shops (not H&M, ...)

A cold December was probably not the best time to walk the streets. However, we did find a good cafe and enjoyed what we did see.

We expected more. We were just walking around for a couple of hours, but we did not find anything extra ordinary in this quartier

Wonderful neighborhood for a day of window shopping, excellent food (try the Suzette Creperie), interesting museums (Musee Carnavalet, the museum of the City of Paris, and the Museum of Hunting and Nature), and a true appreciation of what the city looked like before Hausmann demolished huge portions to create wide streets and boulevards.

We had an apartment just off Rue de Bretagne, adjacent to Le Marche Enfant Rouge, which is a market with everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, meats, cheese, and lots of ready to eat hot food too. The whole of the Marais is "handy" and we had 4 Metro stops all quite close. For a day visit, much to experience and wander around.
