“Friends live here, in a charming old building.”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

This is an old neighborhood, very expensive now, but with a lot of interest. Many boutiques, good restaurants, and some nice museums, including the Picasso, are here. Read the history of the Marais before your visit.

“Great buzz in the Marais”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

Nice area, nice food, lovely shops. Great atmosphere. We went there by day, and also by night. The prices are definitely cheaper here for supper than in the other areas. I would definitely recommend it.

“One of Paris lesser-known gems”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

We stumbled upon Le Marais quite by accident. Having visited Notre Dame, crossed over Rue Rivoli, visited Bazar de l'Hotel de Ville we then wandered from the back entrance avoiding the hideous Pompidou centre and found ourselves in the Marais. It's a maze of small, narrow, bustling streets, with hidden cafes, boutiques and feels very french. Napoleon didn't touch this part of Paris when he demolished many of the other smaller streets to make room for his great marching military boulevards. There are many small shops and eateries to be found in Rue des Rosiers, and Place de Vosges is a small haven of relative green tranquility. We continued along from a visit to Musee Carnavalet to Place Sainte Catherine and ate lunch in la Terasse de Sainte Catherine - they make a wicked club sandwiche. Vert d'Absinthe is a tiny green fronted shop at the bottom of the square where all kinds of absinthe memorabilia can be purchased, from books, posters, the tipple, to silver absinthe spoons and glass goblets.
