“Nice place near the Sacre Coeur”
Reviewed September 17, 2010

This was a very cheap place right at the foot of the Sacre Coeur and across from the Anvers metro station . The room was cleaned daily. Though everything is a little dated, it was still clean. I didn't really like having the Key drop thing, but oh well, the staff was very nice.

Please, please don’t stay here. I have pretty low expectations, and have stayed in a variety of low budget places, but this one takes the cake. 50euros for a poorly presented room with peeling wallpaper. I felt like I was in ‘Down and Out in Paris’ by George Orwell (mind you, the conditions he was in were possibly worse… but not that much worse). It was opposite Anvers Metro station, and walking distance to Sacre Coeur, which were the main things going for it. Seriously, don’t take your boy/girlfriend here – not unless you want to test your relationship! The bed was comfortable enough though. The staff was quite nice.

Hotel's location is perfect - both for sightseeing (2 streets down from Sacre-Coeur and metro station almost in front of the main entrance) and night life (full of pubs, fast food bars, cabarets etc.). It is adequate to the price you pay for it - cheap and almost like a hostel but with a bit more privacy.
I was renting double-bed room for 2 nights. Bed was nice and comfy, sheets and towels clean, but the room was rather dingy. Very small, with a tiny corner for sink and bidet (hidden behind old-looking oilcloth), with wallpapers going off from walls in few places, wires of the in-phone were out and the entrance doors had about 5cm big crevice underneath. But the most annoying thing was the noise that the water installation was doing for most of the nights. It looked like whenever water was used in other rooms or toilettes, it was making rumbling, very loud noise in all the pipes!
I rented room without bathroom, but shower and toilette were on the opposite ends of very narrow corridor. The shower room was specific, with connected funny magazine hidden behind a sheet on one of the walls. The shower-handle inside the cabin itself was a broken, so forget about having both hands free.
Another disadvantage was language abilities of the staff - only 1 per 3 of those I have met were using other language than French (e.g. English).
Great thing was free wi-fi inside hotel and quiet neighbours.

I liked everything about this hotel until I found bedbugs on my bed. This has ruined all the impression that I had.

Front desk people were very nice and helpful, rooms and bathroom were clean, location is excellent (right in front of Montmartre), but this all is doesn't matter when you can't sleep and have a rest at night.

Not as well-presented as appeared on various websites!

I can't honestly recommend this hotel as there were too many problems associated. Granted, you don't stay in a hotel room 24 hours a day during your stay but when you do, you want some comfort.

The shared bathrooms were dirty (with odd adjoining sort-of-rubbish-rooms) with lights not working, the staff hardly spoke at all and only spoke in English in the minutes before leaving the hotel. The carpets, especially on the stairs, were coming up and dangerous, the sink gurgled along with the bidet (a bidet in a room with no toilet?), the rooms were small and damp.

The only staff member that was helpful was apparently the manager who mumbled a few words in English about a taxi on the last day whereas the constantly giggling maid was more entertainment than anything!

The good things were the location. Well, the location's a bit iffy (red light district quite close which gives you an idea) but if you're looking for real suburban culture then the area is ok. The metro station is also quite close.

I had read reviews on the hotel before I booked but it didn't put me off because it was cheap and a great location. On arriving the hotel was situated on a busy boulevard which was really close to Anvers metro station which was great and there was loads of shops and locals milling about. At night the place was buzzing, lots of bars and restaurants to choose from and the climb up to the Sacre Couer was well worth it for the views! The bed was comfortable, the linen was changed every day and the room was clean. The hotel needs an overall revamp but for the price you pay you cannot complain about the condition it's in. We only slept there and apart from the bidet gurgling for 1 minute during the night, one night, it was fine. The door didn't close properly either but this was purely down to the fact that the hotel is subsiding I think, all the corridors were on a slant! However it did lock and our valuables were safe. One night there was no cold water, only boiling hot in the shower, but there is a sink in the room in which you can wash. I found the staff very friendly, approachable and helpful when we needed it. No sour faces at all, they made us feel welcome. I would visit this hotel again if I was on a tight budget, but remember you do get what you pay for. Enjoy!

  • Liked — The location and it was clean
  • Disliked — The shabbiness of the decor and soft furnishings

OK, Paris is not the place for sleeping, but you really need those few hours in the night to recharge your batteries. I found it difficult to sleep in this hotel. The main reason was that the bidet in our room would gurgle outrageously anyone around us so much as turned on their sink to brush their teeth. This was solved by stuffing tissue into the drain openings and covering with a hand towel to muffle the noise...well, it worked. Also, our door did not close properly, so we got a lot of noise and light from the hallway. I'm sure if we had a different room, maybe en suite, we would not have had the gurgling problem. But, we booked the lowest rate and it was fully booked when we arrived, so there were no upgrades to be had.

So here's the good stuff about this hotel: The price is great for an absolutely no-frills hotel. The staff are friendly, you can get by with just a few words in French and they're happy enough with helping you out. If you have to use the shared facilities (shower, toilet) these are very clean, although the shower door has no lock- so, good luck with that. Rooms are cleaned on a daily basis. There is 24 hour free internet, you just need to ask for the code at reception, and it reached at least to the second floor with our laptop. The location is great, just around the corner from the Sacre Couer. There is also a Metro stop just steps away. Despite the "red light district" a few blocks down, the neighborhood seems safe and is quiet enough to keep your window open at night.

I would recommend this hotel for budget travelers, students, and young couples. It's great for being on the go in Paris. The only reason you'd want this place is for luggage storage and a bed at night. This isn't a hotel for special occasions, honeymoons or anniversaries, don't expect to be impressed...you get what you pay for. I can't imagine this hotel would be ideal for families with young/teenage children or older couples...the stairs can be dodgy.

Overall, the hotel is OK. I would think the rooms on the third floor would be a bit more quiet. I'd also recommend spending the extra euros for en suite. That's my honest opinion. Hope it helps!

  • Liked — Location, cleanliness.
  • Disliked — Noisy bidet, a little run down (but clean)
