Hotel Terminus Lyon
Ranked #466 of 1,804 Hotels in Paris
Reviewed April 13, 2009

We stayed here for one night at the start and one at the end of our holiday, choosing Terminus Lyon for it's proximity to the train station and the OK reviews here. We had an early morning TGV out and a late night TGV into Gare de Lyon, so didn't want to face metro, taxi or a long walk. The hotel is indeed right in front of the train station.

For both stays we had quiet rooms at the back of the hotel, overlooking an internal courtyard. The rooms were clean, though on the second stay the room smelt strongly of cigarettes. The bed was comfy, with a bolster pillow... not to my tastes, but on the second trip I found of course there were normal pillows available in the wardrobe. The wifi (get password from front desk) was free, fast and was stable. The signal was strong enough even at the back of the top floor.

A mildly worrying thing, but which seems to be a fixture of all Parisian hotels I've stayed in: there were no obvious fire doors - the spiral staircase goes up five floors uninterupted. I could not see any fire alarm in the room.

The breakfast was just fine, served by a cheerful lady. Conveniently (for both trips) it started very early (5.30am I think) and ended very late (11am). Check-out is a very civilised noon. The reception lady was very helpful, welcoming and efficient.

I guess both the big plus and the minus to this hotel is the location: if you need somewhere to stay for a night or two and it is useful to be close to Gare de Lyon, then I 100% recommend this place. The train station is on your doorstep, there are acceptable restaurants right downstairs which claim to open 24 hours. Oh and search for "Promenade Plantee" on google - it's close by and good for a stroll.

However... if I was looking for a base for a holiday in Paris for several days, I personally wouldn't choose to be close to one of the big international railway stations. For the same price range, you'll find (slightly) bigger rooms with rather more charming local area elsewhere in Paris. This does the job though.

Having stayed at a similarly priced hotel less than two years ago, I am very happy that this time I followed the Trip Advisor collective wisdom and chose the Terminus Lyon instead. Regarding location, Paris has so many sights, that you cannot reasonably expect to be close to more than a handful, so you will take the metro wherever you stay. This hotel is across the street from the Gare de Lyon rail (SNCF)/suburban rail (RER)/metro station, so you can get to CDG airport with one RER change. Metro line 1 will take you to the Louvre, Opera Bastille, the Grand Palais and L'etoile, it is very frequent and very fast, and it crosses most other lines. And the area around the station is actually quite nice, with restaurants and bars that stay open late.

Regarding the hotel itself, the room I got was very nice and in excellent condition (and spotless), there was a lift (small, but always working), the breakfast was of good quality, even though limited, and served in a small lobby (and was included in the price, unlike many other Paris hotels that will charge you 10+ EUR per person). Finally, you get free wireless Internet access in the rooms. I could not have asked for more from a budget hotel, and would definitely return.

We are a family of 4 and had a very pleasant stay ayt this hotel. The hotel is located opposite the Gare de Lyon train station/metro station, surrounded by restaurants. There is a supermarket nearby - go out front door of hotel, turn left and turn left at the first street you come to, the supermarket is 2 minutes walk on the right hand side of the street.
You will need to catch the metro to get to the sites from the hotel, but this would be similar at other hotels. the hotel room is a good size and is clean, neat and tidy with a good bathrooom. Reception is very good and helpfull. Breakfast is quite adequate (no hot stuff). Hotel price was very reasonable for paris (check bookings.com). If we return to Paris we would stay here again.

I chose this hotel for its convenience to both Gare de Lyon (from where we had to catch a train early in the morning) and Austerlitz (where we arrived by train from southern France). It was a comfortable walk from Austerlitz, even with suitcases (on wheels) and is opposite Gare de Lyon. The hotel is very clean and staff were friendly - allowing us to check in earlier than official check in time. The room and bathroom are tiny but clean and adequate for one night. The plastic undersheet on the bed made the night a little bit sweaty but there were no problems with noise or anything else. Check out the lovely Moroccan restaurant around the corner - I left some of their cards at the concierge!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It is located almost directly across the street from Gare Lyon. It is safe, clean and most of the concierge staff is knowledgeable. The room itself is similar to a motel 6-a double bed and a tiny bathroom but it is clean and safe. Bao, the concierge, gave us good information but some of the other staff seemed not to be able to recommend restaurants or provide transportation advice. Only two slim people and two moderate size pieces of luggage can fit into the lift at the same time. The breakfast room is comfortable and the hostess serves coffee, tea and bread and the rest is self serve: boiled eggs, cereal, canned fruit and yogurt.
We asked for a quiet room and we were given the top floor corner room which was probably the most quiet in the building. There is a central courtyard, (using the term loosely) that has mechanical equipment in it and is not accessible.
We used the Air France shuttle from CDG and it was very convenient to the hotel. We walked from the hotel to the Louvre but it was quite a distance.

Very convenient for the Gare de Lyon - right opposite and with plenty of cafes and brasseries nearby. Bed was pretty uncomfortable with a hard mattress and a plastic undersheet. The breakfast was good.

Our flight arrived earlier than usual, and our shuttle was on time we arrived an hour before checkin but the very polite and friendly man at the desk found us a room, which opened onto a pleasant air shaft and was very quiet. There are narrow halls, and old lift and a spiral staircase. This is obviously an older building that has been renovated and well maintained to offer the guest a feeling of old Paris. It is clean, and the room was larger than some we have encountered in Paris. We had wireless access in our room, but could not send e-mail. The bathroom is small, but has a powerful shower and a good hairdryer. The bedroom furniture is above average for a hotel and the decor is pleasant but basic. I recommend the Terminus cafe next door, but there are several other eating places nearby and the hotel is with a few blocks walk of several well-known restaurants.

We stayed here for one night because it was close to Gare de Lyon. We will return here for a pleasant place that is clean and no-frills.
