To be perfectly honest, the only two good things about this hotel is its location and Wi-Fi connections, but other than that, nothing else.

Ironically, after saying its location is one of the only positive points, the hotel was hard to find and was in the 'bad areas' of Paris, if you return around night time, you'll find yourself walking down a shady alleyway with a bunch of gangs sat around looking very suspicious....

The breakfast was bad, room for a family of three was surprisingly small, and you can hear absolutely everything going on around you (When we stayed, there was builders early in the morning and some idiot that likes hoovering at night..).

The bathroom wasn't bad, but the window in the bathroom was broken and wouldn't lock properly, with a staircase that was right outside the window, someone could have easily broken into our room whilst we were sleeping/out.

Tip for visiting Paris during Summer: invest a little more into better hotels cause dear lord, it is warm...

As an 18-year-old girl traveling Europe on my gap year, I'm not exactly rolling in money. When two of my girlfriends and I decided to go to Paris from London for the weekend, we were frantically searching for some form of centrally located, cheap hostel to accommodate us for our 3 night stay. We definitely struck a goldmine with Hotel Altona - not only was it central, but it was cheaper than most hostels on offer! In the famous area of Montmartre, it's only 30 seconds to walk to the nearest Metro station which takes you to some of Paris' main attractions in less than 10 minutes, and only costs about €10 to catch a taxi from Hotel Altona to places like the Louvre and Arc de Triomphe. The room we were in was small but well-kept with a modern bathroom and gorgeous window overlooking a traditional Parisian terrace. The beds were extremely comfortable too, which is a bonus when you've climbed the Eiffel Tower or spent a day in the Galeries Lafayettes (which is Europe's largest department store AND within walking distance!). Although I speak reasonably fluent French, the hotel staff all spoke fluent English and were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the city if ever I struck a language barrier. I've never stayed in 5-star accommodation so have little to compare it to, but if you want a simple, cheap, pretty little hotel in the heart of Paris then Hotel Altona is the place to go!

My wife and I had a hard time choosing a hotel to stay at while we went to Paris, France, and chose this place based on reviews and lets face it the location and the price. If you are looking for a fancy French hotel, this is not it. If you are looking for a hotel with a great location, good accomodations, and friendly staff who speak English; this is your hotel! The hotel is right next to a metro tunnel (Gare du Nord), which got us everywhere we needed to go. It was also not far from hundreds of cafes and restaurants; and we went for many a late night stroll to catch the Parisian scene! Next door to the hotel is a small bakery with typical French fare (bagettes, croissants, etc.) and also a neighborhood market (food for cheap wine, beer, or other needs). The twins who run the joint were very nice, and spoke great English. The breakfast scene was a little strange, but there was croissants, bagettes, coffee, and cold cereal for all. The rooms were very small, but who goes to Paris to hang out in their hotel? There are photos of bed bug issues, but we never experienced that while we stayed here. We've commented multiple times that we loved the location, the price, and accomodations. We'd stay here again in a heart beat. I hope this recommendation helped you. Cheers.

Room Tip: The hotel is on a busy street, and is next to a metro tunnel, which can get loud. Perhaps ask for a...

We stayed at Hotel Altona for four days and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It is in a bit of a rough street, but the local shops were really useful, as is the walking distance to the Gare du Nord and plenty of restaurants and patisseries.

The staff were utterly charming - there were a number of minor mishaps - a powercut, and someone smoked in their room which set the alarms off - but the staff were ever so apologetic and helpful. They'd chat to us at any time, offered us bottles of mineral water for free so we wouldn't have to go shopping, and made sure we kept ourselves safe - young women alone in Paris!

The room was clean and tidy, the bathroom very clean and everything redone each day. The shower was a little confusing but usable, and there were plenty of facilities for unpacking, hairdryers provided, and maps of the city too. They kept our luggage until our late night journey home too. Breakfast was great for a budget hotel - unlimited cereals and drinks, and a roll and croissant each. I was very impressed - and the charming staff added to the character of the place no end.

This hotel was extremely average. It is oldish and needs a bit of work. It is not in the safest part of Paris even though it is close to the subway stations and the open bus tour stop. I was actually robbed at the cash machine. The hot water and water pressure in general was hit and miss, depending I think on other rooms usage on that floor. I could hear the next room's hairdryer quite loudly - which affected the lights in my room. One morning I stepped outside and almost ran into the painters who were right outside my room with paint tins, brushes and drop sheets. There was no warning they would be there. The continental breakfast consisted of one cereal and juice choice, Tea & coffee, one roll and a croissant (not warmed) with jam and butter. The atmosphere was such that I preferred to find somewhere else for breakfast. The reception men ( bar one) were generally quite pleasant and helpful. I would not stay there again though.

Room Tip: I was allocated a single room on the 6th floor. The lifts only go to the 5th. There was no nice vi...
