We stayed at the Cluny hotel at the end of September the hotel is nice and breakfast acceptable. The reception staff.... Oh my God, I never experience anything like this in my life.
The lady at reception was so rude with no interest whatsoever to help. When we arrived I was standing at the reception desk for about 5 minutes without being acknowledged, she only did when I asked her a question. Beware you will need to carry your luggage to the first floor through a spiral stair. On the plus side is the hotel is well located. Metro station is just half a block away and many attractions within walking distance

A very small room ( we had the largest sq metres they had) but nicely furnished. Lovely buffet breakfast presented on a tray with good hot chocolate, coffee and pastries. One lady staff member was friendly and helpful but two others on reception weren't friendly or very interested when we arrived and when we asked for information. The location was superb at Saint Michel and lots of restaurants and shops in easy walking distance.

Room Tip: There was no lift from ground floor to first floor reception, and the room was stylish but very smal...

I knew our room in a Paris boutique hotel would be small, but we were not prepared for the surly, disinterested staff. As other reviewers have stated, not having the elevator available from the ground floor to reception was a bit difficult with luggage. Also, the staff only seemed to understand English when it was convenient. Otherwise, the cold breakfast was ample and delicious and the location was convenient to the restaurants of the Latin Quarter with a short walk to Notre Dame and Metro stations.

We were extremely disappointed. To start with, you have to carry your luggage up a spiral staircase from the street level to the reception area on the 2nd floor. Our room on the 3rd floor was cheesy, ridiculously small and uncomfortable. I asked if we could upgrade to a nicer room and they didn't want to help at all. The staff was cold and not at all friendly or helpful. We hated the location. Don't even consider this place!!!!

Room Tip: Forget the hotel completely and go somewhere else!

Bonjour,

We just spent 3 nights at this hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Contrary to other reviews, the staff prior to booking could not have been more helpful, even going as far as re-opening a booking so we could secure room 503 online, which we have read is one of the best rooms in the hotel. We were absolutely delighted with our room which had two balconies, one of which had views to the Eiffel Tower and looked down to the busy streets below. Great for people watching. The room was small, but as we haven't stayed in any others in Paris I can't compare, but once we had our luggage unpacked it was fine and the charm of the room and the hotel more than made up for that. Street noise was not an issue. Breakfast was plentiful, with croissants, breads, cereals, eggs etc and is served by a very lovely lady in a cosy atmosphere. The hotels location is perfect for many of the attractions of Paris and also to wander around the little cafe lined streets, you are spoilt for choice. The only downside is the flight of stairs to the first floor lobby, it is difficult to manage heavy suitcases if you aren't young and fit.
If you are like us and wanted to experience the charm and atmosphere of Paris and not some five star hotel you could find at home, I could not recommend this hotel more highly. Just loved it! Thanks to all.

I was apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews, but decided to give the Hotel Cluny Square a try due to its proximity to Notre Dame and The Cluny Museum which were on top of our "to do" list while in Paris. I was even more nervous when my attempt to contact the hotel by email yielded no response, and the phone number on the booking turned out to be the fax number so no one answered...but we drove into Paris and kept our fingers crossed that it was legit. Finding the hotel by car was a bit of a nightmare but we at last found the hotel and then found some nearby parking--there is no place to pull up to the outside of the hotel, even temporarily. The reception is not on street level--its up a flight of narrow stairs. The staff varied in English speaking skills and helpfulness, but I really had no complaints. The room was a little worn (we had a standard double) but clean, and while small we did not find it unreasonable or unmanageable. The large closet was used to house the luggage and we were not tripping over each other in any way. We had 3rd floor rooms over the busy street, but did not find the noise to be bad, and the blackout curtains were a nice touch. The bed, unfortunately though, was hard as a rock and the pillows were pretty worn, so was difficult to sleep on. Otherwise we had no issues with the room at all.

Important to know if you want to have breakfast there--if you book through their website instead of a 3rd party like booking.com, they frequently offer free breakfast. Its not much (cereal, croissants, fruit), but when its free, who cares?! The other important thing of note is that they make you leave your key at the front desk when you leave, and ask for it when you return each day in order to get back to your room. Our concerns with this is that anyone could come up to the desk, and you could see which rooms had keys waiting, and could just say you had a room--no one ever asked us for id, and as Americans were weren't accustomed to leaving our keys with anyone, so felt a little awkward about this process, especially since no one explained why. I assume its because the keys have your room number and the hotel info right on them, and so if you lose the key the hotel security would be compromised, but not sure? We didn't have an issue having left the key, but its definitely something to be prepared for if you stay here. Not sure if other Parisian hotels do the same thing or not.

All in all, it was a decent value and we had little complaints, but it certainly wasn't a luxury place to stay. Metro/RER station very close (one across the street and one up the street) so nice location for public transport and lots of food options nearby.

Room Tip: Book through the hotel website for deals such as free breakfast.

The staff at this hotel were incredible. We were in Paris for a family wedding and the staff couldn't do enough. They were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. They can organise tours for you, help with directions etc. There are plenty of cheap restaurants in the area and the Metro is close by. Thanks Celine!
