“Lovely hotel in great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2009

We have just returned after a wonderful 3 nights in Paris. The hotel was lovely, clean and modern and although the rooms were fairly small they were fine and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was at the front of the hotel, in the evenings and mornings there was a fair bit of road noise and some local building work noise going on but it didn't hugely bother us. The location was fab, close to lots of wonderful cafes, restaurants and boulangeries and the metro station just around the coner. Would highly recomend the hotel and would happily stay there again.

With Paris being so expensive because of the euro, this place was perfect for a short break and at a reasonable price too. Staff were helpful. Room was of an average size, beds very comfortable, no tea or coffee making facilites in the room, shower hand to be hand held, however it was very clean and great if you just need somewhere to sleep and get changed. Buffet breakfast was ok with a variety of food f you want to save even more money but bakeries etc nearby hotel.

THERE WAS NO BAR IN THE HOTEL, except a vending machine with hot and cold drinks near reception.

Nice area, not a lot of tourists, traditional french area.

Best thing about the hotel was its location, with plenty of shops and restaurants, there was a bar opposite called the Au Metro with reasonable prices. The hotel is situated next to Pernety Metro station which is really convenient as the best way to get around Paris is by its Metro.

Buy a Paris Viste Pass as it can be used on the buses and metro, we bought one off a website before we got to Paris. This will save you loads of hassle for rooting around for change etc and getting around Paris. This made it easy to get to champs de lysee, eiffel tower, louvre, place de la concorde, latin quarter, st germain and to the notre dam.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel and is great for a 3*, will save you some money to spend on sightseeing and food. Excellent location and very clean bedrooms and would stay again.

Literally across the road from the Pernety Metro ( & 7 stops from Place de la Concorde) and within a residential area close to Montparnasse district. My husband and I went to Paris for a romantic weekend break and were delighted with this gem of a 3* hotel.
We arrived just before mid-day and got into our room immediately to discover we had been upgraded to a superior room. Other reviews said rooms were on the small side but we were delighted with ours. Only down side was the hand held shower which we quickly got used to, no tea or coffee in room (machine in reception) and lack of safe which meant we had to take valuables with us while we were out. All that said we wouldn't hesitate to go back and will recommend it to friends. If you want a reasonably priced hotel and don't expect 5* facilities then this is definately for you. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and spoke good english.
Breakfast was extra at 10 euro per person but with fabulous Patisseries immediately below and next to the hotel we popped down for fresh croissants each morning and got the day off to a great start like the locals do. The "Au Metro" Brasserie across from the hotel offered a great menu all day and was excellent value for money for dinner.

Great hotel 10 seconds walk from Pernety metro stop and 5 mins walk from the Montparnasse bus link to Charles de Gaulle airport. Flat screen tv, very modern room altho you have to hold the shower head in your hand while showering. Breakfast is very very plentiful (as much as you can eat) for 10 euros which is far better than some nearby cafes. Supermarkets, cafes, bakeries, fishmongers etc all on the same street. Very cosmopolitan little area.
One small pointer though, one of the female receptionists had never heard of the Catacombs of Paris when I asked where they were. She didn't even know what they were! It made me laugh with puzzlement. However, I totally recommend going there. You will never experience anything else like it. Oh and for your information, its only 15 mins walk away or 4/5 metro stops at Denfert Rochereau!

I have to admit, before even arriving I was weary of European hotels after reading multiple reviews and hearing stories about how different they are from U.S. & Canadian hotels (smaller, less clean, etc...). And I have to say, upon first arriving at Kyriad Montparnasse 55, I was somewhat underwhelmed. However, we had a very pleasant stay and the next hotel we stayed at (Santa Prassede in Rome) made Le 55 look like a gem!

The room was clean and a comfortable temperature. We loved that they had a fan in the room--my husband can't sleep without a fan on. It's a vibrant neighborhood and the street noise was quite loud but with the windows shut we didn't hear a thing (save the next door neighbors who had other members of their party staying down the hall who liked to knock and yell through the door). The room was small, but sufficient. The winding staircase was less than ideal but there is an elevator. The bathroom was cramped and the shower head was a hand-held one, not hung up so you had to hold it or set it down on the floor of the tub. There's no alarm clock in the room, but the staff will schedule wake up calls - although I suggest asking in person at the desk, not calling down. The one time we called the front desk to place a request for the next morning it didn't happen. That was upsetting (we planned to go the the Louvre early) but the morning staff person was very apologetic and even got us breakfast because we slept in through breakfast service.

Speaking of the breakfast service, it was quite nice for a continental set up. The pastries were good, fresh fruit, four types of cereal, three types of juice, and the instant coffee was quite good. They had a variety of yogurt, cheeses, and deli meats, too. The only thing I would caution you on is the eggs. They were ok but varied day to day - dry one day, runny the next.

The staff were very nice and helpful - with the exception of one guy who every time we saw him was on personal phone calls or out having a cigarette--he was also the one who failed to write down our wake up call request. But the rest of the staff - front desk, housekeeping, breakfast servers - were all pleasant and welcoming.

The location of the hotel is great. It's in a busy yet residential neighborhood so you actually get a feel for the city sans gobs of tourists. (Not that there's anything wrong with tourists, but when you are visiting popular sites all day with crowds it's nice to get away.) *Major location perk - the hotel is less than half a block away from the Pernety metro station.

This was such a great hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were updated and it was a short walk to the metro station. Great hotel for the price!

My 7 year old daughter and I stayed at Le 55 for 4 nights in the middle of Feb 09. The rooms are very small, it for us - its proximity to Pernety Metro, the extensive choice of local boulangeries and restaurants etc. Its max 10 mins work from Montparnasse Bienvenue - the huge transport hub, and location of the Montparnasse Tower - well worth going up. There is also a veggie restaurant 3 minutes walk away, a Monoprix, pharmacy etc. We'd stay there again.
