“We love this hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2012

The Hotel du College de France is a fine 2 star hotel that is perfectly situated in the Latin Quarter. All the favorable reviews here are spot on and there really is nothing more to add.

The rooms are small, but we've stayed in smaller in Paris. They are outfitted in a way that makes optimal use of space and, as stated before, the balcony rooms with French doors are a treat. The room decor may be a little tired, but it was charming and the tiled bath was absolutely spotless.

Perhaps the best comment I could make has to do with the staff. They were all, to a person, consistently friendly and knowledgeable. No matter what time of day, the front desk staff were always pleasant and helpful. I had problems retrieving and printing Thalys tickets from email that were needed the next day. Mr. Sadr patiently and pleasantly worked with me to resolve the issues on two occasions, averting a train schedule disaster.

This is a wonderful hotel that offers value, location and a great staff. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony and French doors are fun

So conveniently located in the gorgeous Latin Quarter, very close to 2 metro stations. A very short stroll to the Seine, Quai Sainte-Michel, the Notre Dame cathedral and the Pantheon. The rooms are reasonably sized for Paris and are clean (well mine was). I didn't order breakfast as boulangeries and patisseries are plentiful near Boulevard Saint-Germain. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Mr Santa-Ana who picked me up at the airport was a joy to talk to and Mr Marc, the owner, helped me out several times with info, museum and restaurant bookings, all done with a smile and no attitude. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: My room was on the very top floor, which was accessible by (a very tiny) lift then a short flight of...

We chose this hotel because of its location and value, and were not disappointed by either. Located in the vibrant Latin Quarter (Left Bank) in Paris, it is close to the Sorbonne and virtually at the intersection of Rue Saint Germaine and Saint Michel. The area seems to pulse with energy and is the home to many young university student. The hotel is small and old, but the rooms are very clean, baths are very nice and the staff are very helpful. Like all European hotels, the rooms are on the small side, but we paid a bit extra for a balcony and were rewarded by a bit more room and plenty of light via French doors. There are shops just around the corner (bread, pastry, coffee, etc.) so we chose not to eat the hotel's breakfast. We would definitely stay here again and happily recommend it.

Room Tip: We liked the extra light from the balcony rooms.

The Hotel du College de France is located in the Latin Quarter about ½ blocks north of the Sorbonne and 1/2 block east of the Cluny Museum. The hotel is an older, small, reasonably priced hotel in a great location. The hotel is nice but if you are used to staying in luxury hotels, this place will not work for you. At about 110 Euro’s a night for a double bed it is a great value given its nice central location. I spent four nights here in a decent, 1st floor room with my wife and we were very happy with the location and the front desk staff. The hotel is located on a small, quiet street so we did not have any issues with noise. We traveled with 2 other couples and they also liked the hotel.

The hotel offers free Wi-Fi if you bring your laptop or Smartphone and also has a laptop in the lobby for guests to use (in an old phone booth). I could not connect to the Wi-Fi but am not sure if it was the fault of the hotel or my new laptop (which does not seem to work right). I was still able to get text messages on my phone though and also used the phone booth computer. The hotel has an extremely small elevator which is helpful if you are on floors 3-6. My in-laws got stuck in the elevator for a few minutes and had to call the front desk to have them pry the door open. I did not use it since my room was on the first floor. The hotel serves breakfast for 10 Euros but we did not try it as there was great coffee shop nearby.

The hotel serves breakfast but we found a nice little sandwich and coffee shop at the end of the block on Boulevard Saint-Germain (I think I is called Sandwichs Club). We ate breakfast there almost every morning and also ate there for lunch a couple of times. One night we ate at the nearby Le Petit Prince de Paris restaurant and recommend that you eat dinner there you stay here. The helpful front desk staff helped us locate it by giving us a map of the neighborhood and showed us where it was.

While the rooms are a little dated I really enjoyed staying here primarily due to the friendly, helpful staff and great location. The entire staff spoke excellent English which was very helpful since we do not speak any French. The hotel is located very close to the Maubert-Mutualite metro stop and the St Michel RER station. I recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Eat dinner at the Le Petit Prince de Paris restaurant as it is good and very close.

Excellent location, helpful staff and comfortable room. Can't do better for the price. Breakfast weak, but other spots available close bye. Walkable to many sites and metro next door. Unless looking for luxury, this will work nicely for you

A friend of ours recommended this hotel to us. Its small and the last (6th floor) has no lift access but the location is just fantastic! We loved it because its so typically french. You can actually open the windows and look out over the rooftops. Reception staff spoke english and were very helpful. The cleaning staff always gave you a cheery 'bonjour!' when you left for the day. No need to take the Metro to the Notre Dame or Louvre; just walk.

Room Tip: If you don't like hauling your luggage up the last flight of stairs don't take the 6th Floor...

I think this is the best location we could have stayed in to visit all of Paris. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from a major metro station and also close to many great restaurants and even small grocery stores for snacks and wine. The staff is so nice and all of them speak English, although were glad to help us practice our French when we tried. Our room was a fair size for Paris and had two beautiful windows that opened to the street. The rooms are slightly worn and outdated, but it is very clean and perfect for the price paid. The elevator was broken for the first 3 days we were there, but we don't mind stairs at all, so this was not an issue for us. I do wish the breakfast was included in the room price. This is the first hotel I've stayed in Europe where there was an additional charge for breakfast.
