The obelisk stands where the Guillotine stood, and where the French King Louis XVI was executed. The obelisk itself is over 3000 years old, once stood outside the Temple at Luxor where its twin still stands today. In 1993 it was covered with a giant pink condom as part of world aids day.

I think it is amazing to think of how this came to be here from Egypt. We were at the Maritime Museum and there was a diorama depicting how this was taken down, transported and set back up

There are two, the other one is still in Egypt. I have seen them both and it is amazing to think they transported this obelisk from Egypt so long age.

The obelisk is amazing, it is an impressive historic memento, a reminder of fallen empires and ancient worlds.
The modern rest it shouldn't be there it is killing a nice square of the city.

There are few places in the world you can see these Obelisks (the capital cities of empires) and they are impressive when you realise their age and history.
