Astounding works of art. We visited Monet's garden prior to visiting Musee de l'Orangerie. I could feel the expression in his paintings.

If you love Monet then a visit to this place is a must! They are just spectacular . Rooms with walls covered with his water lily paintings. We go every year and just sit and stare at their beauty!

This little museum was on my must do list and we loved it. We went specifically to see the gorgeous Monet paintings is the purpose built rooms (love the white gauzy fabric which filters the light from above) and they were even more beautiful than anticipated. We sat and gazed at them for awhile and then decided to take a peek downstairs. Wow! So many absolutely gorgeous paintings from so many masters. I was in art history heaven!

The first Sunday of the month the museums are free in Paris. We went and the queue was very short just waited 5minutes. Monet's water lillies were great, but downstairs there was a display of Italian painters as well as impressionist painters Monet, Manet, Renoir etc as well as works by Picasso, Matisse Etc. It is a lovely small museum and after visiting Monet's garden in Giverney seeing the water lilies completed the experience.

Small quiet museum in the Tuileries gardens. What a nice break from the much bigger and more famous and more crowded museum at the other end of the park, whose name begins with "L" and ends with "vre." The Orangerie is a beautiful small space, where the featured stars are the giant Monet water lilies paintings. It was a simple and beautiful space that invites quiet reflection and contemplation, just as Monet intended. Downstairs is a little more like a traditional museum, but also great collections of Picassos, Soutines, Renoirs, Modiglianis, etc.

This is a small museum, so you can easily do it justice in an hour or two. Definitely worth the trip. Note, they have a combined ticket that also gets you into the Musee d'Orsay, another beauty worth visiting. We didn't know that in advance, but something to keep in mind if you're planning to do both.
