“Go early, sit and watch the paintings shimmer”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

We have been to Paris several times but for some reason have not been here. Suggest you go early and spend 1/2 an hour or so in each of the two Monet rooms looking at the 4 huge paintings in each room. They change with the external light and sitting down and contemplating them is worth it. It was not very busy early. If crowded, the experience would be significantly diluted. The rest of the collection has some interest but the Monets are the stars for their size and quality.

“A museum designed to display Monet”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

This is a must visit. The museum has been remodeled numerous times but always has been a place to spotlight the Monet water lilies. Two exhibition rooms surround you with the series of water lily paintings. The rooms are large enough to get a panoramic view of the murals, yet you can get within arm's reach and be amazed at how the artist could possibly see the big picture as he was painting so close.

Downstairs is a wonderful exhibit of impressionist paintings. They also have periodic special exhibits.

“An overlooked museum”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

This is a great little museum just across the River Seine from Le Musée d'Orsay. I've gone there on each of my last three visits to Paris, and have not had to line up for more than 15 minutes. The first section, on the main floor, is composed of two oval rooms, the walls of which feature Monet's water garden. It's a gentle reflective space. Downstairs the collection of Impressionist Paintings is surprisingly large -- the museum seems quite small from the outside. It's well worth a visit, and gives you a nice bite-sized portion of world-class art.

“Amazing”

Great museum for a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of the louvre. Great art. Make sure to visit the circular room with Monet's lillypad painting. Simply wonderful!

“Be literally surrounded by Monet's waterlillies”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

The highlight of this museum is the large, central exhibition room which surrounds you with 4 very large paintings of Monet's waterlillies. It's almost a spiritual experience. The museum also has a permanent collection of impressionist paintings (especially Renoirs) and has traveling shows. The one that I saw (Italian impressionists) was amazing. A nice museum to visit if you are already at the Tuileries or the Louvre, and worth making a special visit even if you weren't going to visit the Tuileries or the Louvre.
