“Dirty and anonymous”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2014

A real disappointment: high price compared to poor services and quality. The only advantage is the position: central area, near the Ecole Militaire and Hotel des Invalides.

Steep flight of stairs (luckily we just had one suitcase), ridiculous-sized lift, unenthusiastic staff. Our room bathroom, the breakfast room and the reception area were sufficiently clean, but the carpeted floors were filthy, and so were the bed cover (with stains of what seemed organic material and blood stains in the fabric covering the base of the bed).

Breakfast was not bad but anonymous: I didn't have coffee nor tea, but I had a tasteless fruit salad (which was probably got directly from tins).

Won't go back to this hotel again, and we don't recommend it!

Some quirks, but overall a great value and a good stay!

We stayed here two nights in May of 2014. We had a group of six people, and so had three separate rooms. We had to email back and forth several times to work out room arrangements that would get us all on the same floor, but were able to work out an acceptable arrangement and when we got there the rooms were as promised. The location can't be beat... it is right at the Ecole Militaire metro station, and a reasonable walk to the Eiffel Tower and to the Sewer Museum. We could see the top of the Eiffel Tower from our 6th-floor hotel room, and could lay in bed watching it sparkle on the hour. There are lots of restaurants nearby, and a grocery store right next store which was a great place to get ready-made sandwiches and snacks for a good cheap meal.

The hotel itself is very small and old. There are only 5-6 rooms on each floor, with 7 floors in all. We got a single key to each room... an archaic hole-punched plastic thing. Wifi was free and adequate, and secure-- we each had an individual code we had to enter each time we got on the network. The rooms are small and basic, but adequate. There were small bedstands, a small desk, a small closet, and room to walk around the beds. Beds were comfortable, linens were adequate, and there was an extra blanket and pillows in the closet. Bathrooms had only a small shower stall that was tricky for the larger people in our party (our son kept bumping into the faucets and getting surprising changes in the water temperature), but they got us clean. There were plenty of towels and soap provided. There were blow dryers and a small refrigerator in each room. No air conditioning, but two of the three rooms had fans in the closet to use as needed-- we left our windows open and didn't need them. The staff was friendly and tried to help when asked, but they struggled with more complicated questions. Still, their English was certainly better than my French, and we got by okay. They did let us store bags in the lobby our last day, though the bags were just tucked in a corner and not in any kind of storeroom. They offered breakfast at the hotel, but it was an extra charge, and we did not try it.

The quirkiest thing about the hotel is the elevator. I had read about it in the other reviews, and still had a hard time believing how truly tiny it was. I think my kitchen sink is bigger than that elevator! With the six of us, we had to plan ahead to get everyone in and out of the hotel, particularly when we had luggage. We walked it once... and regretted it the next day when our sore legs were protesting all the steps in the museums and tube stops. Still, it was good for a laugh and a story back home, and the top stories were a good view, so no regrets!

If you're on a budget and have a good sense of humor, then you'll do well here. It's a great value and great location, and gets you what you need to get on with the excitement of seeing Paris.

Close to everything and a great base to see Paris, walking distance to just about everything. Close to the metro stop, which is great for the sites you need to travel to. Our room was not noisy, it was clean and comfortable with basic amenities.

We just came back from a month long trip in France and Norway. We stayed at the Royal Phare Hotel very close to the Eiffel Tower. The best thing the hotel has going for it is the location, however we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. My wife wanted to stay in this area so this was a great option. The room was small but comfortable. Don't plan on getting more than a couple suitcases in the elevator.

Room Tip: I recommend those on a budget or don't want to spend a fortune for a place to sleep. We booked...

If you are expecting a newly remodeled hotel don't choose Royal Phare. However, you are not in Paris for the room, you should be out seeing all the sites. Location of this hotel is excellent. As others have said, close to everything and a great base to see Paris, walking distance to just about everything. Close to the metro stop, which is great for the sites you need to travel to. Our room was not noisy, it was clean and comfortable with basic amenities. We did not eat the breakfast so I can't comment on that offer. There is a great pastry shop across the street and a nice restaurant down the block where we spent a quiet French breakfast watching the city wake up. We stayed 4 nights in April and it accommodated our needs without breaking the budget. Staff was very helpful. Thumbs Up!

The location alone almost made me give it 4 stars, but when it comes to hotel amenities, it really is basic. Fantastic location, just 5 minutes to Eiffel Tower. Free wifi. Clean, safe rooms. Extremely close to the Ecole Militaire metro stop. Did get noisy in the morning as the walls are a little thin. Shower was a tad bit challenging to manage. This place gets the award for the smallest elevator. But for a short stay (ours was 2 nights), it did the job.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 44.

My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in Early May in a double (2 twin beds). Our room was plain but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was quite large for European standards but the best part was the 2 balconies off of our room and bathroom! The view from the balcony was wonderful and so Paris. I could even fit a chair on the balcony and enjoy my morning coffee. The room came with a small fridge and free wifi. We didn't eat the breakfast as there were so many cafes nearby and a great little bakery right across the street. You are also only a block away from the Rue Cler which is full of bakeries, cafes, and lots of specialty food shops. There was also a grocery store right next door which stayed open pretty late. We were only 2 blocks from the EiffelTower and the metro stop was literally right in front of the hotel. Our room did face the main street but we didn't really notice any noise. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for an inexpensive hotel with a great location!!

Room Tip: Ask for the room on the 5th floor with the balconies especially if you need a double (2 twin beds...
