“Great for a frat house”
Reviewed October 4, 2005

If you're looking for a frat house kind of atmosphere to stay in, look no further! This is the place! We decided to stay next to the airport because we had an early morning flight to catch. Even at midnight, there were noisy people in the hallway just hanging out. Maybe that was just one unfortunate incident for us.

But throughout our entire waking hours, we kept hearing a noise like things were being moved, as if someone was pushing large furniture around. It was a strange noise -- especially since it was still going on at midnight and was still there when we woke up at 6 AM. Needless to say, we did not get much sleep.

The room itself is plain and not too small compared to another hotel we stayed at in Paris. It's simple without any frills. However, I did notice an extra blanket under the bed but it looked like it was wrapping something large. I was afraid to poke at it. No strange smell was reeking, and since we were there one night, I wasn't going to find out. I also found a plastic spoon next to that blanket under the bed. This only shows me that housekeeping isn't too concerned about cleaning.

The front desk staff that we dealt with was not only unhelpful, but had this rudeness about them, even though it wasn't blatant. They asked if we would be having breakfast, making you believe it was included. It wasn't until I asked that they said it wasn't. We asked for a non-smoking room, but our request went on deaf ears.

You also have to pay for the shuttle to the airport (although going from the airport to the hotel is free). The guy who drove us to the airport probably thought he was a racecar driver. Luckily there was hardly anyone on the road at that hour.

In short, I would rather pay more to stay somewhere that I can sleep. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is a decent place to stay. Don't expect any glamour or luxury. The beds are kind of hard and short. The rooms are very tiny, but that is expected in Paris. It was clean, and the bathrooms were newly redone. The decor is a little tired, but for the money, it was as expected. Nothing wonderful, just an average hotel.

A party of eight 50somethings have just spent a long weekend in Paris. We were delighted with the welcome we received at the Campanile. It was a 'low budget' break, but apart from the rooms being very small, we were all delighted and felt we had excellent value for money. The hotel is an easy walk from Gare Du Nord (we travelled on Eurostar), and also very close to the nearest Metro station. We walked into Paris along the nearby Canal St Martin- very pleasant. The breakfasts were absolutely as you would expect- basic, but plenty of it. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. Extra pillows provided in the wardrobe and plenty of clean towels. The reception staff (particularly the female one) were charming. There is a small bar at the hotel and they were always happy to serve us- even at 11.30pm after we had been out for a meal. They were also helpful in recommending local restaurants for us to eat in. We didn't catch our return train until 6.00pm on the day of departure, and the staff kindly let us leave our luggage there until it was time for us to go to the station. We would highly recommend this hotel for a long weekend for those who aren't looking for luxury- just the basics - with a very warm welcome.

I chose the hotel Campanile because we had stayed in one a few days earlier in Renne and found it to be very cheap, spotlessly clean, all furniture and decor brand spanking new and well located. I couldn't really comment on the service there as we were only in the room to sleep for the night and one doesn't really expect service levels in the 2 star budget range. I was disapointed to see that the quality of fixtures and fittings were not of the standard of the Renne branch as they were a little tired and the decoration was a quite dated but check-in staff were helpful and the barman was friendly and re-opened the bar for us when we came back late from dinner one night. The location is good and although I would not recommend this hotel for a special or romantic stay in Paris, it would be a good base for those requiring a basic room for under 70 euros ($90) per night. Breakfast is a basic continental but available from 6.30am (good for catching those early morning flights) and the coffee was good. However, I would add that although the rooms were not very lovely in the Gare de Nore Campanile, the rooms in Renne were brand new so maybe the chains other Paris hotels would have that same standard.
