La Squara is a charming boutique hotel tucked away on a quietish side street around the corner from the Moulin Rouge in the Montmartre area. Our room like all is small but wonderfully decorated and outfitted with all amenities. It's really just a place to sleep as you'll be out all day, but La Squara is a gem to return to at the end of a long day. Nestled between souvenir shops at the foot of rue Lepic you leave the frenetic hustle of the streets and enter the quiet atmosphere of the hotel whisked to our 5th floor hideaway. Double glazed windows and solid construction means you'll sleep well. The quietist rooms face the back courtyard where you can sleep with open windows. They have even hung a net over the roof to keep the pigeons from deficating in the courtyard.. The bed is a full double, new, firm and high quality. The shower is spacious with a large rain head. There was a flat screen TV with many channels, few of which are in English, only BBC and CNN. There are accessible HDMI outlets on the TV to play back your videos and look at your photos if you wish. Just bring an HDMI cable with you that connects to your devices. The room had a safe, fridge, and an excellent free Wifi connection. The cozy room had everything a couple would want, even a remote control to open the sunroof blind! Plenty of plugs available for charging devices and an excellent lighting setup.
Breakfast is served in the cozy room overlooking the street pretty much any time in the morning, although early risers might miss the fresh pastries and croissantes Manuela puts out each morning. Breakfast was extra at €15 per pp per day. This will add up, but it is excellent with fruit, cereals, ham and cheese, great coffee and high quality Andros juices. Mirabel plums, fresh blackberries and raspberries were also offered. An excellent way to get our day started before setting off on another adventure. We stayed 8 nights in late August and had absolutely perfect cool dry weather. We booked online and paid about €200 pn with breakfast. It isn't cheap, but considering the friendly French, German, and English speaking owner Manuela, the charming decor, quality furnishings, Wifi and great breakfasts you can't do much better for such a private quiet haven in Paris. And the Blue Line Metro is right outside! There is the Deux Moulin cage just up the street where Amelie was filmed and Steve Martin filmed Picasso in the Lapin Agile at the wonderful Cabaret bearing this name; a great 3-4 hour evening of chansons and merrymaking 10 min up the hill towards Sacre Coeur church.
The hotel is ideal for a couple wanting to have privacy yet be right in the middle of the action when you step out the door... Highly recommended!
