“Compact, comfortable, convenient and classy. A great place for a romantic getaway.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

La Squara is a charming boutique hotel tucked away on a quietish side street around the corner from the Moulin Rouge in the Montmartre area. Our room like all is small but wonderfully decorated and outfitted with all amenities. It's really just a place to sleep as you'll be out all day, but La Squara is a gem to return to at the end of a long day. Nestled between souvenir shops at the foot of rue Lepic you leave the frenetic hustle of the streets and enter the quiet atmosphere of the hotel whisked to our 5th floor hideaway. Double glazed windows and solid construction means you'll sleep well. The quietist rooms face the back courtyard where you can sleep with open windows. They have even hung a net over the roof to keep the pigeons from deficating in the courtyard.. The bed is a full double, new, firm and high quality. The shower is spacious with a large rain head. There was a flat screen TV with many channels, few of which are in English, only BBC and CNN. There are accessible HDMI outlets on the TV to play back your videos and look at your photos if you wish. Just bring an HDMI cable with you that connects to your devices. The room had a safe, fridge, and an excellent free Wifi connection. The cozy room had everything a couple would want, even a remote control to open the sunroof blind! Plenty of plugs available for charging devices and an excellent lighting setup.
Breakfast is served in the cozy room overlooking the street pretty much any time in the morning, although early risers might miss the fresh pastries and croissantes Manuela puts out each morning. Breakfast was extra at €15 per pp per day. This will add up, but it is excellent with fruit, cereals, ham and cheese, great coffee and high quality Andros juices. Mirabel plums, fresh blackberries and raspberries were also offered. An excellent way to get our day started before setting off on another adventure. We stayed 8 nights in late August and had absolutely perfect cool dry weather. We booked online and paid about €200 pn with breakfast. It isn't cheap, but considering the friendly French, German, and English speaking owner Manuela, the charming decor, quality furnishings, Wifi and great breakfasts you can't do much better for such a private quiet haven in Paris. And the Blue Line Metro is right outside! There is the Deux Moulin cage just up the street where Amelie was filmed and Steve Martin filmed Picasso in the Lapin Agile at the wonderful Cabaret bearing this name; a great 3-4 hour evening of chansons and merrymaking 10 min up the hill towards Sacre Coeur church.
The hotel is ideal for a couple wanting to have privacy yet be right in the middle of the action when you step out the door... Highly recommended!

Beautiful and clean tiny room just a 50 meters walking distance from the famous Moulin Rouge, perfect for 1 or 2 nights stay as no space for big bags as the comfy bed eats more than 70% of room size.. but will defiantly come back again.

Room Tip: go for superior room you will have more 3 square meters more :)

In some sort of computer booking error, I ended up with an advance payment room when I had actually selected a free-cancellation room. Within 1 minute of realizing the error, I contacted both the booking agency and the hotel to rectify the problem. Despite pleas from both me AND the booking agency, the owner flatly refused to refund the charge even though Paris was not a definite destination for our trip. Since I was charged over $900 for the error, we decided we had to reorganize our honeymoon trip to include a visit to Paris. It is located right next to the Moulin Rouge and in the middle of all of the sex shops, sex shows, etc. so if that is your desired location, you won't find a better situated property. The doorway is basically hidden so look sharply for the small sign once you head up the street from the subway exit or corner. Once inside, you will notice the very cramped entrance and disinterested staff. Only one member of the staff (the young lady at check-in) was even borderline polite. The rest (including the woman I assume was the owner) were bordering on rude which from my experience is typical for the region so I didn't take it personally. They are dismissive to everyone. If you are looking for a warm and welcoming experience, look elsewhere. The elevator was so small I was actually afraid to get in as I suffer from claustrophobia. It barely fit one person and one suitcase (ie coffin-sized which was not pleasant for me anyway). The room was miniscule. There was barely enough room to get around the bed if you had a suitcase. We had three so it required a lot of manuevering and toe-stubbing for the three nights we were there. The bathroom, on the other hand, was very nice with a beautiful large tub and shower. We were concerned at first and expected a lot of street noise as it is in a high traffic area - it was extremely quiet and that was a very pleasant surprise. The bed was very comfortable and provided a great night's sleep. They charge 10 EU for breakfast so we elected to go next door and spend 3 EU for coffee and croissant each day.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a romantic room to spend time in, this is not it. If you plan to spend only a minimal amount of time in your room and want one close to the subway, Moulin Rouge, Sacre Couer, etc. go for it!

Room Tip: The photos of the rooms make them look a lot larger than the really are! A deluxe double is about t...

Lovely well appointed hotel close to Moulin Rouge. Room small but very theatric great ! Bed very soft warm and welcoming just sunk into it after a busy day. Staff polite but not engaging. Montmartre at your doorstep , the rest of Paris a good walk downhill through interesting area.

Just round the corner from the Moulin Rouge entrance but off the main strip.
Surprisingly quiet! Charming small Hotel set amongst the shops. You need to look for the entrance! Taxi drivers will drop you off on the corner- just a few yards away!
Rooms are nicely decorated but small - but in Paris you only sleep in them!
Too many other things to do!
Continental Breakfast on 1st floor. Well presented.
Staff are very friendly & helpful.
Montmartre & Sacre Coeur are close but have good walking shoes for winding through the streets going uphill! Metro is very close by too!
Great Hotel for romantic weekend in Paris.

Room Tip: There a only around 15 rooms in the Hotel. Talk to the owners that staff the hotel to get the right...

I was suprised at how well located this hotel was! Literally steps away from the Moulin Rouge entrance but off the main strip, so you don't get the tourists. Rooms are nicely decorated but small - realistically though, you aren't going to care much because you'll only be sleeping in them! Didn't have the breakfast (overslept) but the dining room on the first floor looked nice and relaxing. Definitely worth a repeat.

Perfect for a week-end dip into Paris. Super clean rooms and starch white linens complimented by very dramatic decor, which was fitting given the area (around the corner from the Moulin Rouge). Rooms are insulated from the traffic below as well as can be expected. Friendly and very glamerous owner. Delightful patisseries and boulangeries are steps away, as is the foot of Montmartre. If you want to be swept away in the madness and romance of Paris this place is for you - if a quite week-end is priority then perhaps a trip to the countryside should be considered instead...
