We stayed here for 3 nights in between Xmas and New Year. Can't fault the location - 150m from the Louvre. Lots of nice bars / cafes / shops within a stroll. We only needed to use the metro once as everything was so close. Room was a tiny bit dated but great bathroom which was a bonus. We were by the lift which was quiet but the guests waiting for it were not! Not the fault of the hotel. For a budget hotel in Paris - this is fantastic.

Room Tip: Not by the lift

Stayed for two nights and it couldn't of been more perfect for what we wanted. Fantastic location (minute walk from The Louvre), plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes too. Nice sized rooms, including en suite bathroom. Little old fashioned lift (could fit in no more than two people though). Staff were friendly and more than helpful with any questions we had. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a short break in a city centre location.

We booked this hotel for two nights because of its conveniently central location. A lot of things were within walking distance and that was what we were after. We were allocated a room on the top (fifth) floor of the building but the lift was from the twenties, it looked more like a phone booth, so we ended up walking up and down the stairs all the way. Not a problem at all, but you might want to consider this if you're less mobile. All basic facilities were provided and the room was clean. For some reason, they gave us a room with 2 double beds and with the bathroom, it was very spacious and exceeded our expectations. Good experience and would recommend this if you're happy with basic accommodation that does not cost a bomb.

We stayed one night and just needed somewhere reasonably priced and central and the Hotel Montpensier was ideal. The room was right at the top of the hotel and very small, but absolutely perfect for our needs and it was lovely to be in a room with character (sloping roof, beams), rather than in a cookie-cutter travel inn or something. We had very little interaction with the hotel as we didn't have breakfast or need any help from the concierge, but the location was fantastic and the little garrett room with views over the rooftops made us feel like we should stay and write a tortured novel in old-time Paris.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back and on the top floor are quieter

Great location for a short stay, a stone's throw from the Louvre and within easy walking distance of the Rive Gauche, Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Centre Pompidou, all along the river Seine, taking in beautiful bridges and scenery along the way. Hotel itself was not luxurious, and staff were fairly brusque, but is located on a pleasant street, close to cafes, shops and bars, and is clean, nicely decorated with large rooms.

I have stayed in Paris in Montmartre before, and while that was fantastic for enjoying quaint cobbled streets and gorgeous bistros and cafes, it required travel on the Metro to access the central tourist attractions. The very central location of the Hotel Montpensier meant that most places could be reached on foot, which we enjoyed as we could take in the sights as we walked and worked off some of the many calories we consumed in lovely restaurants!

Highly recommended for a short stay in Paris.

Room Tip: We asked for a twin and got a large family room on the second floor overlooking the street, which wa...

After spending close to 4 weeks last July/August travelling through France, my wife and I spent a few days in Paris. A tourist information staff member in Angouleme had suggested this hotel to us. We booked a room by phone and walked from the subway to Hotel Montpensier on rue de Richelieu.
The hotel is old, with high ceilings and tall windows all the way to the floor. We lucked out getting a room on the back of the building overlooking a realitvely quiet rue Sainte Anne. Some renovation was taking place. Not sure if our room had been done or not. The hotel cage elevator was typically tiny, just enough space for my wife and two suitcases. Who cares? The bathroom was spacious and the table and chairs right by the window overlooking the street. Service was basic and sufficient.
Close by there are small shops and Asian take-outs with good food! We did not have to go far for our wine and dinner. after walking all through Paris during the day we would not have felt looking for a place to eat and spending a pile of euros for a restaurant meal anyway.
The central location was what made a real difference to us. We walked everywhere from the Arc de Triomphe to Notre Dame de Paris on Ile de la Cite and every interesting location between and loved every bit of it!

Room Tip: Talk to staff and ask for a quiet room. We were on the 3rd floor in ther back which probablty was qu...

We stayed at Montpensier for 3 nights in mid October. It is a basic hotel in a great location! The rooms were a little worse for wear but clean and comfortable. It is very reasonably priced, the location couldn't of been better, the staff were always friendly although not overly helpful with restaurants when we asked about somewhere good to go. The only complaint we had was that the walls are very thin and our first night was relatively sleepless due to very loud American girls running between the rooms, but that is obviously not the hotels fault and more of a tip to future visitors to be courteous. We would stay again.

Room Tip: The lift is VERY small and doesn't always come when you press the button so if you don't lik...
