Visiting obscure museums and found this gem near the Parc Monceau. Prolific 19th century salon winner, world renown in his day and very popular. His style changed somewhat over the years but his infatuation with red haired damsels continued. Some stunning paintings in a dark oeuvre but a highlight is the museum itself. Very haute bourgeois late 19th century with a gem of a winter garden and stunning atelier. His Italian sojourn adds some lightness to the collection. Also beautiful children and apple studies. Well worth visiting with a park stroll afterwards.

Excellent small museum in the former residence of the artist. Interesting and thought provoking works. He really has a thing for redheads.

Nice and cosy little museum focused on JJ Henner paintings which are good and special ,at The best edge of this period academic without being pompier , symbolist with a Sarah Bernardt hint , impressionist with a sophisticated palette of his own. Great to see what an hotel particulier looks like inside , with mouthwatering studio which for information wasn't JJ Henner studio .

Though the museum is currently under reconstruction I await its grand reopening hopefully in the Spring of 2016. The exhibits that are open here are marvelous. Jean-Jacques Henner's work is also showcased among the warm and delightful confines of this beautiful mansion in the 17th eme. After viewing the last exhibit we were also able to take a short walk over to the Parc Monceau. In short it was a perfect day!

This museum is strange: the location is in a north-west residential part of Paris, far away from most tourist attractions. We went on a Saturday afternoon and were the only (!) visitors when we arrived. I soon understood why: there is not much to see here. The rooms are full portraits (most unknown people) and reposing corpses (or "crucifixion nudes"). It took us 15 minutes to walk through. The good news is that the museum will be closed for renovation and extension until April 2015. In the meantime, very few people will miss it. Hopefully there will be some improvement, because until now this museum is a pathetic use of French tax payers money.
