“Ionesco fans shouldn't miss this”

Cute little theater with a dead-on production of the Bald Soprano (La Cantatrice Chauve). Even if you don't speak French but simply know the play in English you'll laugh yourself silly. You've probably seen in the other reviews that it's been playing here since 1957 but it hasn't gotten tired at all. My daughter was laughing so loud that the actors turned to her when they did their bows. Perfect performance.

“My favorite theater in Paris”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

I love this little theater and have gone back more than a dozen times over the years. It's really kind of amazing, especially if you have any appreciation for the absurd. They have been staging the same two Ionesco plays: The Bald Soprano and The Lesson since 1957. While the cast obviously changes over time, virtually nothing else does, so it's oddly comforting to see over and over and over again. Performed only in French I don't think it even matters that much if you don't understand a lot of the language, the absurdity of human nature will shine through anyway. (And it's easy enough to read through an English translation before you go so you will have the general idea in mind.) It's often crowded, especially in the summer months, and the seats are not reserved, so go a little early, join the throng that bustles around the front door and then enjoy the hilarious performances.

“pleasant experience”
Reviewed February 20, 2004

I spent a very pleasant evening at this theater watching two Ionesco plays. The theater is casual, small and cozy, and if you speak french, I highly reccomend going to see a play or two. The area of Saint Michel is also very interesting with a lot to do and see. After the theater, visit the famous jazz bar right accross the street, Le Caveau de la Huchette.
