“Great location....Decent (for Paris) Hotel”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

This was our second trip to Paris, and this time we were determined to stay in a desirable, atmospheric part of the city within easy walking distance to most of the must see sites. We chose the Hotel Royale Cardinal because it is right in the Latin Quarter and close to Ile de la Cite and the Left Bank. The hotel was consistent with what one comes to expect from a(relatively) low to mid range price point. Although the elevator was miniscule (we had to take turns bringing up the luggage) and the room was, as anticipated, tight, we were pleasantly surprised to see a comparatively expansive, fairly modern bathroom and, as an unexpected treat ,a balcony overlooking the street. The staff were pleasant, helpful and unfailing patient with non-francophones. The dreaded, European street noises were not a problem. Our one night stay passed quite peaceably. If trading off amenities for location, the Hotel Au Cardinal will do quite nicely.

This is the second time we have stayed here. The last time was 2005, Nov. Rooms are adequate, clean and staff is helpful, friendly and speak English. This hotel is situated near the Metro in the Latin Quarter which is convenient to restaurants, shopping and sightseeing.

Room Tip: we were given the top floor (6th) and it seemed ok- noisy with windows open but it quiets down aroun...

We checked in on Sept. 8 and stayed here for 4 nights. The staff was helpful and friendly. We stayed in a double room which was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was no more than a 10 minute walk from the train station so the location is great. We did not eat here so I cannot comment on the food or prices. Our stay was enjoyable and I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is a supposedly 2 star hotel. It is clearly not, room was clean and safe, location was fair, Staff was helpful at times, Breakfast was overpriced. The hotel does not have A/C. You can borrow a fan from the hotel, However the room is So small I'm not sure where you would put it.

We stayed here for four nights. We found the hotel very clean but the room in need of a little TLC. The bathroom was tiny but adequate. The bed was VERY comfortable and Sat TV was great. We found the room hot and stuffy at night and as all the rooms are front facing it is too noisy if you want to sleep with the window open. The lack of air con would be something we'd have to consider if we were to return during the Summer again. It is worth mentioning that the double glazing eliminates nearly all outside noise.

We heard a bit of noise from guests staying in the other rooms particularly the toilet flushing. I think the hotel may have been busier on the Friday night as there was no hot water for our shower in the morning. The breakfast (served in your room) was orange juice, tea or coffee, a croissant and jam, baguette with butter and cheese for 7 Euro. It was good value compared to going out for breakfast.

The hotel is situated in Zone 1 for public transport and is a very short stroll from the Cardinal Lemoine metro stop. It's near to the Notre Dame and the Pantheon and is a great base for exploring Paris. The area felt very safe at night and there are plenty of restaurants and patisseries locally. We recommend heading up towards the Pantheon for good food. This is a budget hotel and is priced accordingly.

The location is excellent and if the hotel had air con I would highly recommend it other travelers visiting Paris. Without air con I suggest packing ear plugs and sleeping with the window open.

Where to start... Stayed here in July, hot summer night. No air con in the room, too noisy and smoky outside to open windows at night. Bed had a "valley" and was unconfortable. TV didn't work. Shower had good functionalities, but due to poor maintenance only the small hand shower worked (had hot water at least). Walls are paper thin, could hear people using bathroom, snoring, etc, next doors. Location is good. Would not stay again.

This hotel is in a great little spot in the Latin Qaurter near to plenty of bars and places to catch a bite to eat.. It is also a five minute walk from the river Seine where you can sit with a bottle of wine and picnic during the evening or a ten to fifteen minute walk from notredamn . The down side of the hotel is the lack of air con in the rooms. I shared a room with two other people and the heat was unreal but due to heavy traffic outside the hotel we could not have the windows open which made for an uncomfortable and hot nights sleep.

The staff in this hotel are very friendly, polite and will go out of their way to help you. Overall I would recommend this hotel but in the less hotter months :)
