We had a pleasant week's stay at the Magellan in late April/early May 2011. On some days it was warm enough to have breakfast in the very pretty, nicely landscaped courtyard.

Hotel was refurbished not too long ago -- decor is modern with a warm, cosy feel and everything seems in good condition. There are comfy sitting areas, a bar stand near reception and an enclosed courtyard always open to hotel's guests. A small computer room can be used for a fee (1 hour 6€, 15 min 2€) and Wi-Fi in rooms is free.

A kettle, tea and coffee are provided in all rooms, not usual for Paris and quite convenient. Breakfast is continental with a good selection including freshly squeezed OJ, some fruits and cheeses, fromage frais, yogurt and the usual rolls, coffee, etc.

I asked in advance for a quiet room and we were given a good sized twin facing the lovely, peaceful courtyard. Staff were all polite and welcoming, the place is kept really clean and is on a pleasant street in an elegant neighbourhood.

There are many shops and services close to hotel, including a small Franprix supermarket on rue Bayen and a Carrefour City at 85/89 rue Laugier (open daily 7am-10pm, Sun 9am-1pm). The charming market street rue Poncelet and the Ternes covered market (at 8bis rue Lebon, open Tue to Sat) are near. And nearby avenue des Ternes is lined with shops and eateries, and also rue Courcelles -- with some nice clothes and shoe boutiques.

Arc de Triomphe is within a pleasant 15 minute stroll, as is the lovely Monceau park. Two metro stations are just a couple of blocks from hotel and also very convenient buses -- the 84 bus (Mon-Sat) goes to the Panthéon/Latin Quarter, passing Madeleine, place de la Concorde, Orsay Museum, Luxembourg Garden, etc on the way. And the 92 bus runs daily and goes to the Arc/Champs-Élysées and near the Eiffel Tower, les Invalides and to Montparnasse Tower/area.

The location, however, isn't convenient to RER B train to airport. And, since it isn't central, it's best for people who are comfortable with using public transport.

Stayed for one night prior to the Paris Marathon. The twin room was reasonably priced, with well equiped amenities and walking distance to the Arc de Triomphe. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed at this hotel in March 2011 and it was perfect. We arrived at 10am from Canada and they had our rooms ready! Check in was a breeze. The staff was very helpful, fully bilingual and very friendly. Rooms are small but that is the norm in Europe. My husband and I had a double bed but it wasn't too cramped at all. A Plus was the safe in our room. You enter your own PIN for the safe which made us both feel a little safer. The hotel is located close to 2 metro lines which can take you directly to tourist locations in Paris. It is also in walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe.

We enjoyed the breakfast ( it is 15 euro per person per day). Kind of expensive for what you get but the freshly squeeze orange juice was delicious. Breakfast staff were very friendly as well!

We travelled with another couple and their baby and staff got a play pen and bath toys ready for the baby at no additionaly charge!

There are many restaurants, bakeries and a grocery store that are very close! Highly recommend checking out the bakeries!!

There is also a little courtyard in the back to enjoy your breakfast.

All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to couples or singles.

Had a lovely experience at this hotel. Stayed for 3 nights and was made to feel very welcome. Everyone was polite and extremely helpful when we asked numerous times what metro or how far a certain place to visit was. They even provided little metro maps and street maps free of charge on the reception desk. The breakfast was lovely and very enjoyable, the hotel was spotless and rooms very clean and cleaned every day we were there. Pleasant area outside to have a drink. Very short walk to nearest Metro. What else can I say but a very nice hotel with very pleasant and helpful staff.

Location of hotel is close to Metro and local buses, 15 minute walk to Arc de Triomphe.

Clean, friendly atmosphere, great breakfast, but a bit like every hotel in Paris somewhat small rooms. Not exactly in the center, but near Metro station. When back in Paris, will certainly keep it in mind !

Stayed with my wife for the first week of October. Great value for money. Five minutes to the Metro and RER, very good cold buffet breakfast (rolls were magnificent), orange juice machine a technological marvel and showstopper, spotlessly clean throughout, basic but adequate rooms, very quiet location fifteen minute walk from Arc de Triumph,
Only down-sides were the lack of air conditioning (could be an oven during summer months but fine in October) and the mood/surliness of one young female front office staff person. She should find a non-people oriented job. She single habdedly managed to turn an otherwise very enjoyable stay into something less be her attitude, which by the way was very uncharacteristic of all other French people we met.
