We had a pleasant week's stay at the Magellan in late April/early May 2011. On some days it was warm enough to have breakfast in the very pretty, nicely landscaped courtyard.
Hotel was refurbished not too long ago -- decor is modern with a warm, cosy feel and everything seems in good condition. There are comfy sitting areas, a bar stand near reception and an enclosed courtyard always open to hotel's guests. A small computer room can be used for a fee (1 hour 6€, 15 min 2€) and Wi-Fi in rooms is free.
A kettle, tea and coffee are provided in all rooms, not usual for Paris and quite convenient. Breakfast is continental with a good selection including freshly squeezed OJ, some fruits and cheeses, fromage frais, yogurt and the usual rolls, coffee, etc.
I asked in advance for a quiet room and we were given a good sized twin facing the lovely, peaceful courtyard. Staff were all polite and welcoming, the place is kept really clean and is on a pleasant street in an elegant neighbourhood.
There are many shops and services close to hotel, including a small Franprix supermarket on rue Bayen and a Carrefour City at 85/89 rue Laugier (open daily 7am-10pm, Sun 9am-1pm). The charming market street rue Poncelet and the Ternes covered market (at 8bis rue Lebon, open Tue to Sat) are near. And nearby avenue des Ternes is lined with shops and eateries, and also rue Courcelles -- with some nice clothes and shoe boutiques.
Arc de Triomphe is within a pleasant 15 minute stroll, as is the lovely Monceau park. Two metro stations are just a couple of blocks from hotel and also very convenient buses -- the 84 bus (Mon-Sat) goes to the Panthéon/Latin Quarter, passing Madeleine, place de la Concorde, Orsay Museum, Luxembourg Garden, etc on the way. And the 92 bus runs daily and goes to the Arc/Champs-Élysées and near the Eiffel Tower, les Invalides and to Montparnasse Tower/area.
The location, however, isn't convenient to RER B train to airport. And, since it isn't central, it's best for people who are comfortable with using public transport.
