“fantastic location”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

Fantastic location on the left bank just across from Notre Dame and the Louvre. Stayed there for 3 nights in Paris in October and just loved it. The hotel is small and almost hidden in an alley, but for a couple looking to be out and about sightseeing in Paris the friendly staff and central location make it ideal. Very clean and the staff spoke excellent English. Would definitely stay there again if traveling to Paris.

This hotel was very comfortable and the staff was very accommodating. When we first arrived the concierge was very helpful by giving us recommendations to restaurants or directions to places. This hotel was in a great location to walk to the Louvre or to walk to shops and restaurants. The hotel is very close to the Seine. Relais Hotel du Vieux Paris had very small rooms yet they were very cozy and they had everything you needed.I loved walking down in the morning to have a great breakfast with fresh baguettes and croissants. My mom and I had a very nice stay at this hotel and I recommend it to everyone.

It's too bad about this hotel - it could and should be that cozy, homey left bank place you return to over and over, not minding the dearth of basic amenities because you feel so warmly greeted and cared for and the location is so good.
EXCEPT, you are NOT greeted warmly here, the person at the desk when we checked in last week was cold to the point of rudeness. It is the sort of atmosphere where one feels that any request is seen as an imposition on the staff there. (Not the breakfast or maid staff, they were perfectly sweet and seemed to be trying).
For a small, simple hotel like this one, this is a huge problem, as kindly helpful staff and a warm, friendly atmosphere is THE reason to stay at a place like this. Without that, there are nicer places to stay in Paris with better amenities (breakfast for example is mediocre at best and not cheap).
It isn't as though this place is a particularly good value. In fact it is pricey for what it offers. I am actually sorry to say I would not return because it is the sort of small, well located hotel I usually love, but this one misses.

The location in the Latin Quarter is perfect, steps from the Seine and the hopping cafes of St. Michel. The room was charming (and not in a "charming meaning too small" kind of way), with exposed beams & fabric wall covering. The staff was pleasant and helpful, the small lobby sitting area was a nice place to meet and talk with fellow travelers, and the continental breakfast wasn't a bad value at 13 Euro with excellent coffee.

Be aware that you're paying a premium for the location and you won't be surprised or disappointed. From the hotel, we were able to walk to Notre Dame, the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Tuileries Gardens, St. Chapel, Luxemborg Gardens, Le Marais, Pompidou Centre, etc. What our feet couldn't carry us to the Paris Metro stop around the corner did.

We loved our 4-night stay in this charming hotel. Our room was #47 in the front, but on a very quiet street 2 blocks from Notre Dame and 1 block from Sainte Chapelle. Our room was decorated in padded blue toile walls and matching fabrics with a king sized bed. It was identified as an "executive" room. The bed was extremely comfortable with beautiful smooth sheets and a fluffy duvet. There was a small desk and a table and chair in the room. The bathroom was small but adequate with big fluffy towels and complementary terry robes and slippers. If the weather is nice you can open the windows to the fresh air, but there is also a really good air conditioning system. Great neighborhood off Rue St Andre des Arts with loads of restaurants and clubs in any direction. Walking distance to Musee d'Orsay and the Luxembourg Gardens. The hotel offers a breakfast for 13 Euros which we took advantage of with fresh croissants, pain chocolat and baguette along with butter, jam, and honey, eggs boiled to order, cheese, plain or fruit yogurt, cafe au lait (with steamed milk), tea, or hot chocolate. Most mornings we were smilingly served by Tatyana who also works as a housekeeper. Monsiour Henri, who is the weekend desk clerk/concierge was wonderful, a truly kind and sweet gentleman, always willing and anxious to help out. He arranged for a taxi to the airport in advance for us since we had to leave at 5:30 am. The next time we visit Paris we will certainly return to this hotel which has a wonderful history and a lovely caring owner in Mme. Odillard. Merci beaucoup and au revoir!

Superb location at a small alley between the Seine and the restaurant rows in the Saint Germain area. Nice and attentive staff, that however forgot to book a taxi for us which resulted in a stressful departure. The rooms are small and over-priced, you do not get the 4*-feeling that many other hotels in the vicinity can offer at more modest rates.

A great find...my husband and I stayed here for a week at the end of May 2013 with his parents to celebrate his father's 80th birthday. Many positives:
- location, location, location - steps from the Seine, short walk to metro, cafes, restaurants, shopping, walkable to Musee D'Orsay, Louvre, Notre Dame, etc, long walk but doable as far as Eiffel Tower (an 80 year old walked it!)
- Sound of silence - the quietest hotel I've ever been in...the renovations mentioned in other reviews are apparently over
- Space - Compared to other Euro spaces our room (#57) was roomy, with couch, desk, jet tub and sky light (plus strange 'loft' with staircase which took up room with no valuable reason).
- Quaintness (some things may not be for everyone, but we didn't mind) - real French maids, authentic French decorating, requisite snooty/charming front desk clerks, breakfast heartier elsewhere, smallest elevator ever, no bar or restaurant, serious shower leak, small - so no early check in for the red eye travelers.

Room Tip: We stayed in room #57 and it looked very much like the photos and video - we uploaded our picture of...
