“Central Location and Clean”
Reviewed September 4, 2008

MIJE is not your typical hostel. It was quiet and clean! The location is very central, only a short block from St. Paul metro and walking distance to Notre Dame. There is also a grocery store around the corner.

I stayed in a 6 person room. It had 2 showers and basins and the toilet is shared in the hall. I was pleasantly surprised that the showers and toilet was always clean. However, they did not provide any hand soap for the bathroom! Another tip, they have a hair dryer in the girl's toilet on the first floor. Each bed had plenty of storage (no locker) and even had hangers to place your clothes. No room fan, but plently of windows. I liked that each person had their own light beside their bed.

The complimentary breakfast was decent but it's the same each day. Try the hot chocolate, it's delicious and savour your orange juice as you are only allowed one cup!

I would return to MIJE again. Reservation was simple, but make sure you call to confirm if you are arriving after 12 noon.

INTRO
I stayed at the MIJE on a school trip in July 2007. It was very hot throughout the stay. We had to open all the windows throughout the night in order to get to sleep. It is in a nice area of Paris, and is a very beautiful building.

THE MIJE ITSELF
The MIJE is split up into different sections which have to be accessed by a central courtyard. The building is very beautiful but hard to navigate due to extremely strange, thin staircases and corridors which look the same and go on turning forever. There is a strange old lift which looks like it is about to collapse and is very difficult to find. The MIJE staff were quite friendly during the day, but in the night when some of us had lost our room key cards, the managers got ticked off and would ignore you if you asked for a replacement. The rooms were good, but basic. The bathroom does not have a door! It only has two shutters which do not nearly cover the entrance to the bathroom. There is no privacy when showering. The food was ok at best, and sometimes horrible. We were at the Aqualud water park and some of us got out of the water early to gorge ourselves on fast food, without our teachers knowing, as they forced us to try and eat the meals. The drink at every meal was mouthwash: no joke! I will post some photos of the mouthwash.

VERDICT
A nice youth hostel in a good area of Paris, excellent value for money but strange at times.

  • Liked — The good value and safe, clean rooms. Location very good!
  • Disliked — Strange layout, bad food, no bathroom door!

I really liked this hostel!
The hostel has loads of character and has a really nice feel to it. We stayed there in July 2007 and found it to be more than adequate, there is a beautiful view of the seine, the Eiffel tower looked gorgeous a night and there was the a lovely buzz . .. . . PARIS
LOVED THE BREAKFAST

Disadvantages - Not many, the food was nice, but the drinks were definably mouthwash green + red = Brown (we did this experiment)
there was a creepy picture of some woman on a building outside and there was no toilet in the rooms, this was at the end of the corridor.

For a trip away i would give it 100%, it is really nice, the staff are friendly and it is all furnished using stuff form Ikea!!
what a place!

The Mije is amazing and so fun to stay in! I've stayed in it every summer and winter for extended periods since 2003 and highly recommend it. The main drawback is having to leave the hotel during the middle of the day, but who cares since it's Paris.

You're sure to meet many great people from around the world during the tourist season. In the winter it is very dead expect for school trips.

I had originally booked a stay for three nights, with email confirmation, after a late flight and delays on the metro we arrived to the hostel at 12:45 pm I had previously emailed the hotel to let them know about this. Upon arrival I met a rather rude security man who looked us up and down like a piece of dirt, he was aware that we were tired and ready for our room upon arrival-(2 young females aged 24)
He claimed that we had no confirmation of a room and was not bothered there was nothing he could do- i explained that we had booked and if he would be kind enough to read the email or get a manager, he would see the confirmation. He simply refused to help and directed us out of the building whilst looking at his watch, instead he wrote a address on some paper that we didn't undertstand and directed us out, leaving us lost and unsafe.
we spent the next 2 hours searching for hotels and hostels and became quite scared when 2 men followed us, we eventually stumbled across a kind taxi driver who saw that we were in distress and helped us to a hostel free of charge! just when I had lost all faith in human nature!
a word of advice make sure you call the hotel, emails don't count for anything these days! we stayed in the blue planet hostel 2 stops away-very friendly staff with cctv.very safe and close to metro.

I was very pleasantly suprised staying here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice and clean, our room had two shower/sink areas for 4 beds.

breakfast is traditional for France but it quite large. you get a croissant, a baggette, different jams and butter or honey, some orange juice, coffee or tea or hot chocolate. If your looking for ham and eggs you will have to go out.

The location can't be beat. 5 min walk to ile cite, and another 5 to Notre Dame. Metro stop right next to it. Lots of supermarkets, and various food shops, as well as restaurants. It was teh best hostel stay I've ever had. Would book again in a hearbeat!

  • Liked — the location and how clean it was.
  • Disliked — No alcohal allowed, noisey trash pick up and school groups at 7 in the morning..

I was staying with a school group and we all had the time of our lives. Lunches and dinners were not great but it was so close to great restaurants it didn’t matter. Having the metro station so close was a bonus. Overall an excellent experience.
