we stayed here from 29/03 to 03/04, in room number 5 (top floor), family of 4.

you know those old buildings that have been refurbished on the interior, all new and modern hotel amenities? this isnt one of those. but i don't mean that in a bad way, though some might take it that way. this is the kind of building that has not been renovated, where wiring runs along the surface of the walls, where paint and plaster cover a mess of stuff, and the towels have some other hotel name on them. some might see run-down, some might see character or shabby-chic. it was perfect for us.

we stayed on the top (attic) floor, no elevator. nice big room (especially for paris), trundle beds were pulled out, slept 4 comfortably (hit my head a couple times on the beams, but thats ok). paris had their coldest spring in 30 years, so the extra large soaker tub in the bathroom was a welcome addition for the wife and kids to thoroughly warm up after a long cold day. a few worn area rugs thrown across the floor, a small table, desk, fake wood stove. very clean. technically, you can see a tower of notre dame from the corner of one window.

breakfast was expensive, so we just picked up some stuff at the patisserie a block away on our way out for the day (wow, wish we had those at home...). a note on the desk asked guests not to eat in the room.

now the location. i would challenge you to find a better location for someone staying in paris. 1 block from notre dame and ile-st-louis, very near the bustling bar-filled as well as classier parts of the left bank but on a quiet street, 1 block from st-michel RER stop (direct for both airports and versailles). there is nothing you could want access to that is not nearby and in walking distance (except thankfully, a train station).

we were here over easter weekend; the staff left a couple of chocolate easter eggs from a local patisserie with a happy easter note for the kids, very nice touch and much appreciated.

Room Tip: top floor, if you can do the stairs....

My wife and I spent 1 week here during our honeymoon in 2008 and loved it. We had the top room with views of Notre Dame.
First, let's talk about the negatives. The room's furniture was spartan and the bed wasn't very comfortable. To get to the top room you have to walk a circular staircase so if mobility is a problem for you I might suggest another room.
Now, what we LOVED about the hotel! Firstly, the location is out-of-this-world. It's maybe 200 yards to Notre Dame. Plus, if you do book the top room you'll be able to see Notre Dame's bell towers from your window and hear the bells throughout the day. It's also a short walk to The Louvre, Musee de Orsay, and the Pantheon. There are a number of fantastic restaurants on the isle de la citie (La Rose de France was our favorite) that is, again, only a short walk away.
The complimentary breakfast was simple (croissants, coffee, juice, fresh fruit, breads) but delicious. The croissants that we had at the hotel were the best that we had in Paris. The restaurant is artsy, eclectic, and cozy. Paintings adorn every possible surface of the breakfast area and give it a genuinely warm and comfortable feel. The owners were polite and hospitable too which is always a treat.
We would recommend Les Degres de Notre Dame to anyone and would happily stay there again. I can't stress enough the importance of the location. It is in the heart of EVERYTHING! You won't find a better location for less.

Room Tip: The room at the top with views of Notre Dame was magical. Pay the extra 10 euros or whatever it is a...

I stayed in Room 48 over Easter with my husband and 6 year old daughter. Our experience was overall very positive. We were 4 flights up so not for the faint-hearted but lovely exposed beams in the room and quite spacious. The extra bed for my daughter was not the most comfortable but that is often the case with a triple room. Location is fantastic as it is across the river from Notre Dame but on a quiet street. We did have breakfast once which was very nice but is no longer included in the price and costs €13 pp - I would prefer to pay a little more for the room and have breakfast included - even if less substantial than the breakfast on offer. The staff we met were charming and I was very impressed to find an Easter Egg for my daughter in the room when we returned on Easter Saturday night. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 48 was quite spacious but room 501 would appear to be even bigger - one more short flight of s...

This location is great-- arrived on RER line from airport and climbed the metro steps to face Notre Dame on the Seine. Great welcome to Paris for my two teenagers in tow. Although in the hotel is in midst of most sights-- was very quiet and charming-- and the staff most accommodating. Breakfast was great. As mentioned in other reviews-- the stairs are very steep and internet is iffy--- we solved the internet problem by signing on in the restaurant during breakfast or drinks.
We stayed in room 501-- huge by European Standards-- and I could see the towers of Notre Dame from my pillow! We arrived Christmas Eve morning and that night we were very tired from traveling, but I awoke to hear the bells of Notre Dame at midnight and then the choir singing.... it was beautiful and one of my fondest memories of the trip. I think we may have had the hotel to ourselves that night. Blissful.

Room Tip: If you can-- get room 501-- but be prepared to walk many, many steep steps. It helped that I was wit...

Very different hotel from any I have stayed in. There is no lobby, and you check in at the restaurant/bar, which was a bit surprising the first time we walked in. There is no elevator, and the stairs are very steep and winding. If you do not like to walk be wary. The staff is very helpful, and a major plus. We stayed in room 48 and the trip up the stairs took a day or two to get used to.
The room was big enough for 3 of us to stay comfortably, and the bathroom was very good with great water pressure and two sinks. ,y only issue was the bed, which was in poor condition. and the pillows, which were worse. I usually sleep well, but was uncomfortable in this bed.
Location is as good as it gets, and the breakfast was pretty good, as well. I would say it is a good deal for the price, and would recommend this to anyone as long as they know what to expect.

It can be an old building ..this doesn't means that it must be so dirty...it seems like they never clean (the rooms but also the common areas like stairs , restaurant, etc )

They said that internet connection is possible but this is not true....

They said ( in their website) that domestic pets are not allowed in the hotel but you can see their sweet cat walking in the place where they prepare breakfast.. Breakfast is less than basic ( don't ask for a second croissant .You entitled just one..)
Do you want to know the cost ? .......140 euro for the double room no 23 and 95 euro for the single no 10..

Ideally located on RER B line and with Metro lines to major sights. Walking distance to museums, also feasible to walk to the Eiffel Tower if you're feeling energetic. Lots of restaurants and cafes in the area and a stone's throw away from Notre Dame.

We stayed in Room 36 and found it very comfortable. The mattress was really comfortable, the room was very clean, as was the bathroom, and we had plenty of space with 2 chairs, drawers, a small wardrobe and a safe. Two sinks, a good water pressure on the shower and a bath ensured our comfort also.

Although there were stairs they were not exceptionally hard and the rooms being set in alcoves meant that there was very little noise of coming and going at night. The area was quiet at night times and we slept well.

Breakfast was good - bread, croissants, natural yoghurt, cheese, tea or coffee, and delicious freshly squeezed orange juice.

Staff were friendly and helpful. We'd happily stay here again.
