We had heard this restaurant was great and decided to get away from eating Frech food. We came on a Saturday night and were seated upstairs, which was very warm. Our waiter was fairly rude (not that unexpected) but the remainder of the staff was very accommodating and nice (and yes, we were trying to speak French!). The food was good but nothing memorable. The whole experience was just okay, don't know if I'd go back.

Rue Grégoire de Tours has a very mixed reputation food-wise, as a number of places (in the part of the street North of Saint Germain) are specialized in tout-pushed, overpriced poor grub for visiting tourists.

Casa Bini is certainly not in that crowd. The tables are a bit cramped, but sitting on the upper floor enables open windows and some fresh air. The menu does not offer a very large choice of dishes, but that's a rather good sign in my book. The antipasti plate is tasty and fresh, with authentic mozarella, not the chewy paste too often found. The swordfish carpaccio is on the smaller side but tasty and fresh (a bit more tangy would be great). The panacotta is as Italian as one can expect.

The wine menu is quite extensive, both in terms of varieties and prices. We had a small incident in that we were counted two bottles (at 37 EUR) instead of one on the bill, but the waiter to whom we signaled this apologized profusely and insisted that we identify the other waiter who had taken the order, supposedly a trainee, to make sure he would be informed of his mistake and not make it again. So, benefit of the doubt on this one, does really not sound like an attempted scam. Service in general was friendly and efficient.

This is a rather trendy place (lots of litterary and movies crowd; a rather famous French actor was eating next to us), which inflates prices a bit, but they are still OK considering the quality of food.

Six of us enjoyed a delightful lunch at Casa Bini in the Latin Quarter in Paris (6th.) today. From the melon and proscuitto, the mozorella with tomato and basil, tuna tartare, to the pasta ragu with wild mushroom, pasta with gorgonzolla, and pasta with a red sauce, we all had a delicious lunch, rounded out with a hearty red borello (hope I spelled that right). Very reasonable, very good service, very busy at lunch. Reservations a must. We really had a good time.
