Could not find a better location in the centre of the Marais for the money! This Hotel, while is modest in its accomodation, is really at the heart of the Marais and just steps from Rue des Archives with its eclectic mix of shops, cafes, bars and street life , yet Rue des Platre where the Hotel is situtation itself is very quiet ! A small but enchanting reception leads straight away to the lift and steps upstairs - rooms are small but very comfortable - queen sized beds, and the bathroom a delight! Curtains are heavy so obscuring the morning light if you like a sleep in and the sheets and towels were changed everyday mmmmmm!. There is no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and no formal breakfast but there are adequate shops and cafes metres away on Rue des Archives. We found Marie Helene and her family team at reception really helpful - Marie Helene even did a midnight tour of the immediate district for us showing us where she lived in one the Marais's infamous olde 'Hotel Particulaires' and the studios of the designer of the Pompidou centre (immediately opposite the entrance to Rue des Platre on Rue des Archives) . We were asked did we require breakfast in our room but we declined as we loved breakfast at 'Le Pain Quotidien' just around the corner in Rue Des Archive - its an amazing bread based cafe with loads of home grown/made vegetarian options (gets busy but a short wait will be worthwhile and there are plenty of other cafes next door on Rue des Archives to entertain your appetitie and even a Daily Monop a fresh food supermarket outlet!) From the Hotel its walkable to beyond Les Halles, Rue des Rosier (Jewish Quarter), Louvre, Place des Voges, Hotel De Ville (and its Metro), Beauborg, Left Bank, Pantheon, Paris Mosque, Jaredins des Plantes, Bastille, and all round the Marais - also recommend 'L' Imprevu' Cafe on Rue Quincampoix a few streets away - its a cool repose for you with teas, beers and cakes - especially late at night the crowd is appealing! Approach the Hotel from Chatelet Les Halles or Hotel de Ville metro - taxis can be hailed from either end of Rue de Platres. Enjoy ! :-) PS the hotel also has a beautiful spriral staircase ! PPS For the best Choc Eclairs in Paris try 'L'Eclair' on Rue Pavee nearby!

Room Tip: Two rooms on each floor have windows to the rear and will be very quiet but have no street views. The remainder of rooms have views onto the street - but the street (Rue des Platre) is relative quiet in Marais terms and Rue Des Archives is just metres away with all its facilities and eclectic mix of cafes, bars and shops.....

We had rented an apartment in the Marais for 4 people but found when we arrived that it was only suitable for 2 and we needed very quickly to find a hotel room in the same neighbourhood We luckily stumbled on the Vieux Marais. The staff could not have been more charming or helpful and the room was bigger than we expected for the money. It was clean and comfortable and the public areas very appealing. We would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Our room on the 4th floor was lovely and quiet and had a skylight .

Very good Hotel location , spotless room , clean bathroom, good price for the location in Paris.
Very helpful and knowledable concierge.
We will stay there again. Not glamorous but very good lots of restaurants and bars all near by and walking distance.

Room Tip: Twins are larger than doubles but they are warm and comfortable. No Food

Although the hotel is small, and there aren't too many amenities, we had an excellent stay at the Vieux Marais. The twin bedded room was small but very clean. The concierge was always helpful and made great Restaurant suggestions. The neighborhood was great if you like a good Jewish bakery, falafel and wonderful small shops. We were very close to the Jewish Historical Museum and the French Holocaust Museum which interested us.
The hotel is in a great location for small French restaurants which were delicious and the Metro. We felt very safe walking at night.
The only drawback was there wasn't any English speaking TV station on the hotel TV. They said hopefully next year that would be changed.
All in all our 3 night stay was great at a reasonable room rate.

When we called ahead, we were told that the renovation work was confined to the breakfast area on the ground floor. The reality, on arrival, was that the entire central staircase was being recarpeted all the way up the central void. The fumes that this released made me and my fellow travellers sick. Within an hour of checkin I was coughing and my eyes watering. I feared mostly for the 2 year old child and pregnant lady in our party. We checked out immediately, What was particularly galling was that we could not get a refund for what was, to us, clearly an unhealthy, therefore unsafe, indoor environment. This properietor argued that the low cost of the rooms was due to the renovation - about which we had been informed - and, besides, no one else had complained. Thanks but we will not be back, Madame. No discount is worth the risk.
