“Nice little hotel - but it had bedbugs”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

A nice little hotel with english speaking staff and well situated very close to the metro. I stayed in room 604 and had little problem with the noice from the street.

Woke up with bites and found 20+ bed bugs in the bed and even more on the floor and in corners. I was given a new room on the third floor which did not seem to have any bugs, but I did find bugs on my clothes after my stay.

If it was not for the bed bugs I would happily recommend it to others.

My girlfriend and I have just spent a few days in Paris and the Hotel Roma Sacre Coeur was just perfect.

After a very short walk up the stairs from the Lamarck – Caulaincourt Metro station on line 12 we were met by very friendly English speaking staff and shown to a lovely room on the fifth floor overlooking the street. A few others here have commented on the noise from the street - yes, you can hear a bit of traffic at night but it's not very loud at all. The room was, clean, a good size, with a comfy bed, a a very powerful shower and a view of the Basilica de Sacre Coeur from the window.

The Basilica and Montmarte's Place du Tetre are just a short walk away, and you'll find plenty of shops and reasonably priced restaurants there - three courses with wine for two cost us between €38 and €50. There is a bank with an ATM nearby and some little shops down the road where you can buy breakfast. Breakfast is available for a charge at the hotel but we chose to eat on the go, so I can't really comment on what it's like.

The hotel's proximity to the Metro station was fantastic. We arrived on the Eurostar at Gare du Nord, got line 4, changed at Marcadet Poissoniers and were at the hotel within half an hour. It costs €1.70 for a single journey, and that could be right to the other side of Paris, very handy for sightseeing.

Overall this a great hotel. We have no complaints whatsoever and I really can't understand how others are complaining about trivial things like the decor or the tv only having French stations. If you're travelling on a budget and want a good place to stay in a fantastic location, I'd highly recommend the Hotel Roma Sacre Coeur.

We stayed 17th november for 1week.We arrived to a friendly man we ended up calling mr cardiff very friendly and helpfull, we stayed in room 605 on the sixth floor i had heared of the traffic nosie complaints before so i emailed a week before and asked for a higher floor which they did with no problems or complaints.the room was clean and tidy with a mini fridge nice clean bathroom very happy,we arrived late in evening so we had dinner at one of the many resturants to choose from along the road the room was very warm and cosy and we had a televison whcih sometimes you could catch an english program in english. In the morning we collected our breakfast and had it in the room its was tea coffee crossiants and bagguetts and some lovley jams. When leaving the hotel you do have to leave your key with reception but this was okay with us no chance of it being lost. The metro is right next door down some steps whish is great but the area itself has alot to offer, there is a supermarket down the street and a lovely little shop 2 doors away to get wine a nibbles from.if you go up the hill not only have you got the sacre coeur which is a beautifull church but you have some great resturants and they do great deals like 3 course starting at 15 euro's and upwards depending on what you want.If you go up at night you can see the lights of the city but beware theres loads of steps :0, Overall i have no complaints at all the hotel was lovley paris was beautifull and i WOULD most certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Email the hotel for a higher floor away from traffic.

We arrived in the afternoon, and it was easy to find. We took the train from CDG to Garde de nord, and the metro from there to the hotel. (Lamarck clingancourt, line 12 towards Mairie de issy )
We were greeted by an englishman, really lovely man. The room was already done,so we got it immidiatley. The stairs up to our room were really old and filthy, but our room were good enough. It's a medieocre bed (a bit short, and i'm 1,60 cm long..! ) but it was clean. A minibar and a safe box was also in there, which was good so we could keep our water cold.

The bathroom needs a renovation. You could see it started to get black spots in the ceiling and in the cracks in the shower. Why even have a showercurtain? it was black molded and smelly...The hairdryer wasn't really working well, i gave that one up.

If you are a light sleeper, this is not the hotel for you. The traffick outside will start around 6 am, and you'll never fall asleep after that hour. At midnight it's not much traffick and noise, but the morning rush starts early.
There's no A/C in the room, so I think the summer months are going to be uncomfortable staying there, especially if you have to have the windows open at all times over the window...

We didn't really stay a lot in the hotel. We went out around 9 am and and came back around 10 - 11 pm. It's an okay place to sleep and have your stuff, get a shower before you embarck on your paris sightseeing, but I think I will choose a different hotel next time, since the different staff members didn't even check for ID when we asked for the room key, that's a huge deal for me. And a good reason to use the safe in the room.

Room Tip: The higher up you can get, the better sleep qulity you will get. We had a room on the second floor...

I'm not sure how to review this hotel, should I review it as a 2 star hotel, if so, this place will probably be rated as average, or should I review it at as a hotel in general, if so, this place will probably be raged around bad.

The best thing about this hotel is the location, in the middle of montmarte, and so, in walking distance to attractions like Moulin Rouge and Sacre Coeur, and also within walking distance to many nice restaurants, bars, pubs, brasseries and also close to boulevard de clichy. The metro is also very close, just out of the front door and down the stone stairs.

The staff is polite and like to joke around, maybe a bit unprofessional, but I don't mind. One thing that worries me is how easy they hands out the room keys, you have to give them the keys when you are going out of the hotel, and you get them back when you come back, the only ting you have to do to get the keys is to state your room number, they don't check your ID or anything.

Then it is the rooms, the bedroom is nice enough, I had no problems sleeping there, and the room was often cleaned. The decor is a mismatch with hippie-colors, really bad clown portraits and some modern looking lamps, that would fit in a more stylish hotels. The television set had allot of channels, but all of them was in French. the floor is poorly laid so when you walk on it the panels glides from each other and creates gaps that can pinch your toes.

The bathroom was dirty with molds, flaking paint, hair from the previous resident and rust. The pipes was clogged, so I didn't get a good, long shower until the last day when they finally fixed the issue.

There is a lot of noise from the streets so if you, unlike me, is a light sleeper, that might be a problem for you. There is no A/C in the rooms, so it might be hot in the summer, and sleeping with the windows open, is a problem, because of the noises from the street. The rooms have hotel-safes, and I suggest you use those, because of the issues with the key handling. The hotel room also has a hair dryer, which is useless, the air that the hair dryer blows is weak and cold, and you would get a better effect just sticking your head out of the window.

So, who might and might not choose to stay at this hotel? I think this hotel is best suited for young singles and couples traveling on a budget, it is definitely not suited for families whit kids, or older people, mostly because of the flaws in things like the floor and the stairs is very old and the wear and tear makes them hazardous for tiny young toes or old stiff ones, and the elevator is very tiny, and might give you claustrophobia.

Would I be staying on this hotel again, probably not.

So how would I rate it, well I decided to rate it as hotel in general, since the competition is hard in Paris in this business, so you could probably, if you look around, find both 3 star hotels and other types of accommodations for around the same price.

So this hotel get two stars, since it has the nice staff and the great location.

Nearby the sacré coeur and a good metro-station, nice and good restaurants/bars/shops in the neighborhood. Clean rooms with enough heat and airco, a bit little but with nice and warm-colored paintings on the walls. Friendly guy at the reception. We id not take breakfast, because the dining room was small and warm (in november)

if you are deaf and blind, stay in this dump, otherwise stay away. tiny dirty smelly rooms, banging doors, loud main street in front of it. no hot water in the shower, and when we used the hairdryer the fuse popped out repeatedly (every time calling reception to take care of it). the hotel clearly has never been renovated since it was built. if you want to go to paris save more money and stay at a better place.
