Would I recommend this hotel? Can't decide. I think there may be better budget hotels in Paris for the same price but we did have a great time.

We arrived late and the night porter was lovely, unfortunately I found the guy at reception during the day to be cold and a little rude!

Location: excellent, 5 mins to metro station with 3 lines, 20 min walk to the Latin Quarter and same to the seine. There is also a fab cafe just out to the left when you leave the hotel.

So....

Room (34) very small. Bed was comfortable but pillows too soft. Room was very warm so you needed the windows open hence noise.

Bathroom: can't call it a room. It's too small, you can barely turn in it. Could be difficult for some! The shower pressure was great though.

The is no safe and I did not like having to leave the key at the desk everytime you went out.

But I've no complaints that just the way it was and we'd a great trip!

My fried booked a twin room here via an Expedia rate and I have to say that she chose well. The hotel is recently refurbished (it's also changed name so the Google Street View image is not representative). On a small side street near the Place d'Italie, convenient for the Metro, walkable to the city centre and with many restaurants and bars nearby. The hotel itself is standard - no bells and whistles, but solid rooms and service. Our twin room on the fifth floor was a decent size with comfortable beds, a large bathroom with shower, and desk space in the room itself. We faced backward onto a courtyard and had two nights' unspoiled sleep - made even better by some great blackout curtains. All in all, a great and central location and brilliant value.

I chose this hotel based on the positive reviews from trip advisor and I can say I was not disappointed.. The bathrooms were huge for 'Paris' standards and the rooms tasteful with a modern touch. The lift was not working the first day (but was fixed promptly the following morning) we arrived so the concierge happily offered to bring our bags upstairs. We did not try the breakfast at 9 as there are many cafe's nearby offering cheaper and more ambience outside of the hotel.. The staff were friendly and were happy to help when asked. Close to the metro and an easy walk (10/15min) to the Seine or Jardin du Plantes to catch the batobus. I would stay here again as it is reasonably priced and clean, modern accommodation.. The only thing I could possibly agree on is that the walls are paper thin so if sleep is your priority and you have excitable neighbours, good luck ;o)

We stayed at this hotel in August and thought it was wonderful. It's easy to miss as the large sign still says Hotel des Arts and it's just a small, paper sign on the door that says Hotel des Ecrivains, we nearly walked right past. Check in was easy. Friendly, english speaking staff. The lift is extremely small, it felt more like a dumbwaiter than actual lift... we ended up just taking the stairs most of the time. The rooms have been refurbished and are quite large by European standards. There was no AC, but even in August that was no issue as we were able to open the two windows to get a nice breeze. We really appreciated the free wifi and the fact that the toilet room was separate from the shower. It's a nice neighborhood with several restaurants and shops nearby. Very close to the metro station, we had no trouble getting around the city. For being one of the more budget friendly options, we were extremely happy at this hotel.

Small hotel next to place d'Italie, easy to start exploring the city by metro and bus, friendly personel, cozy little rooms, very good price for Paris. Coffee shops and a large mall nearby for all needs. Expected better breakfast.
