“Fantastic hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2011

I stayed here back in June 2008, so bear in mind some of this may have changed, but I'm sure it's relatively unchanged. The Hotel Langlois is a fantastic, affordable, classic Paris hotel.

The room we had, which was a two-room suite, was comfortable and large. It had high ceilings, a bathroom that was spacious and clean, and a television with cable. The view was very cool - it looked out onto the front street where every morning we could open the windows and see businessmen and women buzzing about on the streets. Our room was on the third floor, and there is a small elevator, which is unique and beautifully adorned in wood, but it is not necessary to use all the time. The marble stairs are large and on a gentle incline so unless you're on the top floor or unable to use stairs, it isn't a big problem.

The service was friendly - the front desk and breakfast staff were helpful and smiled when they saw us. There were free newspapers (The International Herald Tribune) at the desk every morning and breakfast was served in a front room. We ate there a few times but generally went to the corner and had a delicious breakfast at the cafe right there looking out at the plaza.

The location is excellent. It's in Paris's 9th district and therefore is convenient to many quintessential Parisian sites and places. There are many excellent restaurants nearby. Also, the hotel is in a location that is not too frequented by tourists, so you feel like a Parisian resident yourself when staying there.

The metro is nearby and taxis are plentiful in the area. There is a bike-sharing system at the foot of the street, viewable from the front rooms in the hotel.

Overall, it's a relatively affordable and hotel that is unique and filled with character and individuality. You will not find this anywhere else in Paris.

We first stayed at this hotel in October 2007, and we loved it.
This time, we went in the summer, and fortunately we made advanced reservations as it is hard to get rooms otherwise. We also got 10% off during this month.
The hotel is very well located, half a block from the Metro station(Trinite-line 12), which has a vending machine to buy tickets. There are several cafes and restaurants nearby, as well as a wonderful boulangerie(pastry shop) right beside the hotel.
A few blocks away too, are the Galleries Lafayette, the Gare St. Lazare(train station) as
well as the Opera, as well as RER train stations(A and E) too.
The hotel has all rooms air conditioned, a necessary amenity for warm days.
We had reserved a non-smoking room(No. 24) that is located in the rear facing an interior
patio, but for some confusion in the management, that room was not available. So we got room No. 14, which was in the second floor(premiere etage)facing the street. This was unfortunately, a smoking room, and as we would not open the windows to avoid the street noise, the a/c was very convenient. In any case, it was relatively quiet during the night.
All the rooms are carpeted, and have a full bathroom included, that varies in size, but that
is very clean and adequate, including hair dryer. The decor is eclectic, with many antique
furnishings and paintings. Our bed was too soft though, the mattress probably needed replacement. It also had a large armoire as a closet. There is a mini-bar well equipped, and
a flat screen TV with basic channels.
There is an old-fashioned elevator that works well, and a smoke-control glass door that was added after our first visit to the corridor. Local phone calls are free.
The service staff is very helpful and kind, starting with Madame Bojena, the owner, who was
not present but on vacation at the time. The temporary manager was somewhat inexperienced but filled the job well. There is a small breakfast room on the ground floor, which offers a continental fare with real squeezed orange juice, fresh mini baguettes and rolls, cheeses, hams, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, coffee and tea. All for 13 euros each, not a bad price, considering what it costs now to have breakfast in any cafe. This is the best feature of the hotel, as well as its good a/c and convenient location.
A tip: Ask for a scale before you leave, to check the weight of your luggage. The management is more than happy to oblige. The inconvenience was the old mattress and the carpet that need replacement.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the rear that are very quiet. The top ones have a view of Sacre Coeur de Montrmartr...

I stayed at this hotel during a business trip and spent very little time actually inside the room. But I was satisfied with what I had - the antique feel was very 'parisienne' and I named my room 'the princess room' as soon as I checked into my 6th floor room, because of the sitting area. It looked like a charming little gazebo (there is a photo of this room onthe hotel web page under standard rooms).
The room was well enough equipped - closets, tv, suitcase rack, hair dryer and a reliable wifi connection. Many lower budget hotels in Paris offer wifi these days, but most cannot actually guarantee it inside rooms. Many times I've sat on the stairs and to check my e-mails nodding and smiling at the elderly japanese couples taking photos of this curious scene.
Many travelers here have complained about noise, but I guess that was before the sound-proofed windows. The only noise keeping me awake was the washing machines. I think they were next-door to this prnicess room of mine, because there was a 'staff only' door and the noise ran all night and went silent again in the morning. But I always use earplugs when sleeping in strange places anyway, so that failed to really bother me.
The sites I needed - Sacre Coeur and the Montmartre area - were really close (we walked around all day, had tea on the hillside and it was all charming again). And the metro is just around the corner. We strolled around with our suitcases and had no problems.
A tip for if you stay here - around another corner (right side street from the Trinite church) is a small store ('Jardin de Trinite'), where you can get fruit and water etc. And about a 5 min walk to the right from the hotel on Taitbout street there is a larger grocery store 'Franprix', where you can get yoghurt and all sorts of other goods if you are looking to spend less and skip the 13 euro breakfast.
Oh yeah, and the elevator is like a movie classic. There aren't too many of those anymore.

Room Tip: If looking for silence, aim for floors 3-4 and with windows toward the inner courtyard.

A great classic Paris hotel. I still would rather be in the 5th or 6th, but this is my favorite on the right bank.

The Langlois is quintessentially Parisian. Beautiful belle-epoch rooms & bathrooms, large & high-ceilinged, full of character & charm. (I was in 21, I think 11,31 etc are the same). Charming staff too, though with the usual tendency to deploy a Gallic shrug in answer to a question.
Faint background rumble from the metro at times, but I would rate this as a quiet hotel with good facilities including aircon, wifi etc .Excellent value, recommended.

This hotel is very charming and has big rooms ( and bathroom too!) for Paris standard hotels. The breakfast was just right the cost of staying here is very friendly to the pocket! the service is very very nice and the staff accommodating and friendly!

Will definitely stay there if i get the chance to visit again and will definitely recommend to anyone who would ask!

I'll never forget the charming elevator!

The hotel is a few metres away from the metro in the wonderful 9e. You are far away enough from the tourist crowds yet close enough to several sights (Montmartre, Gustave Moreau museum, Le musee de la vie romantique).
The Belle Epoque feel of the hotel is wonderful and made us feel as if we had stepped back into the early 1900s, the lift is a real treat! All in all the hotel added much to our Paris holiday as the sightseeing and is really affrodable for the period setting.
Staff are very friendly and helpful, I would definitely stay at the Langlois again.
