“An Excellent Hotel for the First Time Visitor”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

My husband and I spent 4 lovely days at the Hotel du Cadran at the beginning of November. We found every one of the staff to be helpful and a pleasure to deal with...from the ladies checking us in to the gentleman who was awake at 4:45 AM on a Sunday morning to make sure our hotel-sponsored car to the airport was on time to pick us up. Sure the room was small - but the bed was very comfortable and we could see the top of the Eiffel Tower from our room. And the location of the hotel is every bit as centrally located, and as safe a location as previous reviewers have stated. The subway is just around the corner and down the street - and the abundance of restaurants in the area makes staying here a breeze. Don't hesitate - go ahead and make your reservation to stay here. As two first time visitors to Paris - we found this hotel to be just what we wanted.

Hotel Cadran is nestled off the side of Rue Cler - a trendy area on the Rivé Gauche between the Eiffel Tower and Invalides. It is also close to the Seine and they happily greeted us as we walked through the sliding doors. We saw the little chocolate shop on the main floor past the entrance desk, and after checking in we went to our two little - I mean little - rooms. We stayed in a double, and the boys (ages 10 & 11) were in an interconnected room with twins. We actually loved our time in this hotel. It was a little like living on a boat - no space was left unused. But that careful design made a for an extremely functional space for storing clothes, it had a safe, lights by the bed, and a nice but tiny washroom with a shower, toilet and sink. The boys actually had a bathtub in their room; otherwise, it was identical. The breakfast space in the basement was incredible. Each morning, we would descend the breakfast cave and pour our coffee, hot chocolate or tea, have some yogurt or cereal, a fresh baguette, croissant, cheese, meat, fruit and chocolate croissants...oh, the pain au chocolat was incredible! We were happy with the hotel.

I booked the Hotel du Cadran recently and approximately 48 hours before I was set to arrive, my grandfather passed away. I reached out to the hotel to see if I was able to cancel without penalty as I needed to attend the funeral, and they assured me that I could do so without any charge. Two days later, the hotel changed their mind and decided to charge me one night's stay.
I find that incredibly unprofessional (I have the email confirming no charge) and downright insensitive (deceased loved one? sorry!). I travel to Paris for work several times a year and the Hotel du Cadran has been removed from my preferred hotels.

When our night train to Barcelona was cancelled at the last minute, my husband and I were stuck with finding a hotel at 9:15 at night, which anyone who's been to Paris knows is not easy with no phone and no internet access. We landed at Cadran, which had one room left. Reception was very nice, and the room was excellent, in a great location near Rue Cler. One of the most comfortable beds we stayed in that vacation—what a relief after the chaos at the train station! They even let us use their computer and printer to book and print our plane tickets for the next day.

Very convenient to pedestrian shopping street, Rue Cler, several Metro stops, Les Invalides and the Tour Eiffel. Staff is friendly and welcoming. When we arrived at 7am after a 12 hour flight from Johannesburg, SA, we were offered a free breakfast and given a place to safely store our luggage until check-in time. So, we were able to spend the day strolling around Paris, knowing that our possessions were safe.
Although not large, our room was very adequate for two people and compactly designed with a modern, ensuite bathroom, independent thermostat and an operable French window. The bed was very comfortable and the linens snowy white. The maid service was excellent and unobtrusive. The breakfast room was probably once a wine cave or something of the sort, with white-painted brick walls and soft, indirect lighting. The breakfast menu included yogurt, fruit, assorted cereals, a cook-it-yourself egg cooker for making soft-hard-cooked eggs, a variety of breads, pastries and juices and a dispenser for coffee, cafe au lait, hot chocolate or hot water.
While using the computers provided for guest use, I met an American woman who was staying there for the 7th time!

The front desk staff is the best reason to stay at the Hotel du Cadran. They speak English, are very pleasant, and helpful with advice. They arranged 2 tours for us, called the taxi for the airport and always smiled and made us feel welcome. The location is fantastic, around the corner from Rue Cler with restaurants, and an open market. You can walk to the Eiffel tower, Napoleon's Tomb, and the subway stop is a couple blocks away. The breakfast was delicious and filled us up for most of the day. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean. All around a wonderful place to stay. A grocery store is across the street where you can buy bottles of water, and there are several bakeries in the area with delicious pastries. We highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: A little noise at night on the street side with garbage trucks and people, but not a big issue. Such...
