“twice in a week”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

I was in this hotel twice in a week, from 16 to 19 December for business, and from 23 to 26 for pleasure. The place is nice, rooms are fine for one person (for 2... not so big). Personnel polite and very helpful.
The hotel is in the south of the Latin quartier, near Place de L'italie and the metro. There is 55 mins walking to Notredame.... Try it.

Room Tip: 305 is fine

The hotel is fairly modern with nicely decorated rooms. Good amenities, great rain shower. The best thing was however the neighbourhood. Not in the immediate city centre, but that's what makes it so interesting and authentic. Quiet area, off the beaten track, with plenty of nice bakeries, bars and restaurants. Quaint narrow streets with cute houses, feels very much like a village within the city. Great to just stroll around. Not far from metro (5 minutes) and from there doesn't take long to get into the touristic centre (20-25 minutes).

The hotel was clean, relatively stylish, and very comfortable. The room was a good size for one person, but two would have been a little tight but still completely manageable. It was equipped with a television, small desk, wardrobe, and a safe. The room was clean and modern, as was the rest of the hotel. The bathroom was also clean and modern, and the shower was a good size - which is not always common in Europe. One pleasant surprise was the neighborhood. In the evenings, upon returning to the hotel after a day of sightseeing around Paris, I discovered that there is a very nice night-life about a 30 second walk from the hotel. Nice, small, neighborhood pubs and restaurants, a good but small crowd of locals in each place, and in the streets. However, since this is a neighborhood, everyone was quiet and peaceful. It was really a nice feel, without a bunch of partying, loud music, and crazy people making noise. Instead, it was a nice place to stroll around and find dinner, virtually seconds from the entrance of the hotel. Dinner in the neighborhood was a great way to end the day.

On the negative side, only two things I can say. First, the WiFi internet access was very unstable for the two nights I stayed there. The other thing is that, unfortunately, the hotel is not near any of the "big famous sights" of Paris. However, do not be deterred - the entrance to the Metro transit (Corvisart station) is about a 5 minute walk from the entrance of the hotel. Taking the Metro from there, the Eiffel Tower is less than 10 minutes, or the main Gare de Lyon train station is about then 10 minutes.

I will definitely be staying here again on any future sight-seeing trips. This is definitely not a place I would recommend for a business trip, or if you prefer to stay in a fancy, full service hotel with gourmet chef and room service. I have already recommended it highly to colleagues at work, and I will continue to do so for anyone who is seeking a recommendation for a place to stay for a short stay in Paris to use as a great base of operations for sight-seeing.

Located in a quiet and very charming parisian district : the famous Butte-aux-Cailles.
The hotel is very basic in every way: staff, cleanliness, facilities, toilet & shower, etc. If you don't mind the price and just want to sleep there is ok.

The hotel was situated in a quiet residential area of Paris. The hotel was not far from Place'Italie metro so was good to travel from. There was easy access to a variety of eating places locally as well as a large shopping centre with a Carrafor supermarket.
The rooms are small which is fine for a short stay, the hotel is modern and clean ( the room was cleaned daily with fresh sheets and towels) Even though the room is advertised as soundproofed you could here doors closing in the corridor and from the floor above.
We thought breakfast was expensive at 14 euro so used the local shops which worked out well and much cheaper than the hotel price!
Would use again for a short stay.

What makes this hotel a bit of a hidden gem is its charming location. A 10 minute walk to the Metro through a neighborhood dotted with cafes, restaurants, bars, bakeries, grocery stores, wine shops, even a shopping mall. A 20 minute subway ride and you are at the Louvre.
The hotel has a modern feel, with basic amenities and rather compact in size. Yes, the rooms are small and so are the bathrooms but they are well appointed with comfortable beds, a mini fridge, a safe, television, hair drier and towel warmer. The hotel staff responded to our needs in a polite and efficient manner.
After a day of sightseeing it is refreshing to return to a neighborhood void of tourists. The Hotel Saint Charles offers a great Parisian experience right outside its door.

Although I liked very much the hotel, I am not so positive as the previous reviews.
I personally like the location at the Butte aux Cailles, a very lively Parisian neighborhood that is not so popular among tourists, with many small bistrots and a very special communist restaurant. However, bear in mind that this is not near any tourist attraction on town.
I was put in a room in the first floor. The room was very small, with hardly place to put 2 average suitcases and not much space to hang clothes. The bathroom is small but well designed, but the shower so small that I kept bumping on the handle and changing the water temperature unwillingly. There is a safe box and a small fridge in the room, as well as a hair dryer and coffe/tea. Breakfast is correct though expensive at 14 euros.
The place is very noisy. You hear noises and doors closing all the time. From 7:10 AM it is as if the cleaning staff was cleaning my own room. Perhaps in the top floors are less noisy.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
I find the 3 stars you see next to the name of the hotel a bit exaggerated, 2 would be closer to reality.

Room Tip: Low floors are noisy in the morning.
