“You can find better budget hotels”

Same as the review written below.. The lift was not working.. Nobody helped us with our luggages up the winding staircase.. The area is bad as there are prostitutes around there even in the day time.. Service is horrible.. The man at the reception treated us like crap. Wifi at lobby but the lobby is a distance away from the rooms.. You have to go walk down the stairs and across a long passageway back to the lobby for internet. Late at night, we heard the staff quarreling with two customers and a lady was crying, I think she got mugged? The staff seemed to be very hostile and did not want them to help call the police. Not sure what was going on but the staff was upset with them as they do not have money to pay for the room I think. If you're looking for a good budget hotel in Paris, stay in Hotel Monnier! I have written a review at the page as well. The only good thing in Cosmotel was that the room was newly renovated, modern and clean.

The hotel is old consisting of inter-connecting buildings with lots of winding staircases and oddly placed lifts (have to walk up first staircase to get to the lift, and if you're in the rear building you'd then need to climb another winding staircase to get to the lift for that building) ... but the room we stayed in was modern having been totally updated so was clean and pleasant.
The hotel is in the same block as the Saint Denis Metro so very easy to get around Paris. We didn't have any problems with the locals in the area, but there was a somewhat unsavoury atmosphere at times with prostitutes and larrikins hanging around. My husband was more concerned than I was and I certainly didn't feel unsafe even when I was just with my children. Saying this, there was a fantastic market street behind the hotel and some great little cafes and restaurants.
If you're after a budget hotel in an interesting area and are capable of climbing stairs then I'd recommend the hotel.

we stayed at the hotel with my husband and daughter having come for the paris marathon! The room is expensive for what it is but it was clean and bathroom very pleasant! However the service was very poor , staff unpleasant! We had a box on the car roof and they couldn't say if we could drive down the car park or not ! we had to see for uorselves! well, we went , it fits the first door and then nightmare, we couldn't go back and we broke our box completely going down to the spot! we were quite angry but they wouldn't take any responsability for it ! it was our fault! at the entranc eof the carpark there is no sign whatsoever about height etc..! so illegal here!
we were late the next day to get the car back and they were so awful , they wanted to make us pay double even though we just ran the marathon and tried to get back quickly! we argued it was very unplesant! lots of noise in the night until 2am from other room because poor isolation! and yes corridor and staircase awful, door of the room not up to norms!

We stayed with our two girls in room 11.

Room 11 is a very decent room with 2 twin beds. The room is on the first floor in the back of the building, far away from the noise of the streets. It is well decorated and has a modern bathroom.

Beds were a little bit hard but we all slept really well. Additional blankets and pillows were available in the room.

We didn't use the breakfast but had breakfast on different locations in the neighbourhood.

WiFi is only available in the lobby in the front of the building, not in the rooms (at least not in room 11).

Elevators did not work and I had to lug heavy luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Staff could not speak english but was friendly enough. Sheets were filthy. No soap or shampoo provided, I had to ask. I guess you get what U pay for but for an extra 20 euros a night a friend stayed at an accor hotel, the Mercure and absolutely loved it

The feedback i read about this hotel was pretty positive and i was looking for a cheap hotel to stay 3 nights in paris with my girlfriend.

it's a small hotel in a very narrow building. you only have a door at ground floor and you acces the hotel by ringing the bell. the glass in the door was a bit broken so not a good first impression :) when you enter you have to take a small stair to the 1th floor to the reception. Service was ok and english acceptable. We had our room on the 3th floor and the elevator wasnt working... we didnt take the breakfast.

the room was small but clean. comfortable but hard bed. i like that but maybe others prefer a more softer bed :) negative point was that the curtains wouldnt close completely so we had to place a chair against it to keep them closed. i hate it when my rooms gets to light in the mornings. badroom was really small but again clean, you get warm water really quick! the shower wasnt great though. you couldnt hang it up so you needed to keep the shower head in your hands all time... also clean towels everyday but not much. just 2 big ones and 2 small ones ;-)

negative points
- rooms were refurbished i think but the hallway looked old.
- pretty noisy although we didnt sleep at street side. each morning around 8.30 workers started to hammer on the walls and housekeeping used a vaccuum cleaner in the hallway nex to our room... not enjoyable to wake up with!
- no elevator and really small steps
- old doors for the rooms with a BIG KEY that you needed to hand over at the reception once you left... not a good system imo cause everybody can ask for you key then. i rather prefer card keys.

overall a pretty decent stay but i wouldn't come back here and pay a bit more but price/quality comparison is ok i think :)

sorry for the bad english ;-)

Room Tip: lowest floor possible. not fun to take 4 floors when walking more then 5miles a day

Good experience overall. I would go back. Staff did not speak English very well, but were friendly and we were able to communicate. Good parking in garage just opposite hotel at reasonable price. Most importantly, room was clean. Fresh towels each day. Breakfast at hotel overpriced, good options around hotel area. If you are picky, neighborhood looks a bit sketchy, but always enough people around to make it feel safe.
