A small old style hotel in a good location

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 16, 2017via mobile
This is my second stay at the Peyris Hotel. It is an older style hotel but the rooms have all been improved so bathrooms are modern, there is good air con and windows that open. Room size is not bad for a relatively inexpensive hotel. Walking distance to a lot of the tourist spots and close to some good eating places. I have discovered though that Paris in August is problematic as a lot of places are closed.

Nice, clean & comfortable hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to nearby Metro stations and Gare du Nord railway station so you can get anywhere in Paris relatively easy. Would definitely stay there again.

Honestly, I want to give this hotel an excellent review, because there were many positive points to staying here. The hotel is conveniently located no more than ten minutes from Gare du Nord station - it is also impossibly close to lots of amazing restaurants such as Padzouille and Hugo's (both of which I would recommend!). It is also charmingly quaint and the one-person lift makes me feel like I am in a James Bond movie.

However, there were a few hiccups of which I feel I need to mention. The first being the air con system. We were originally booked into a hostel for our three night stay in Paris, but upon hearing that said hostel had no air conditioning, we re-booked with Hotel Peyris. Unfortunately the air con barely managed to blow out any air at all, let alone cold air. The dial on the wall seemed to be broken as we couldn't turn it down, meaning it happily told us each morning that we had slept soaked in our own sweat at around 26 degrees. As our room overlooked a courtyard, opening the windows didn't produce much of a breeze either.

I tried to explain this to the lady on reception, and although she managed to turn the temperature down for us on the second evening, the air conditioning then switched itself off within a couple of hours. Contrastingly, the system in the other room our group of four had booked worked perfectly. My only other real complaint would be our "bathroom". I was sharing a two-single-bed room with my male friend. The toilet cubicle in this particular room was split off from the shower room. It could only have been described as a box toilet, as it was so small you had to leave the door open for fear of claustrophobia. It also meant you had to travel across the hotel room into the shower room in order to wash your hands, which is not ideal when sharing.

To surmise, I still have to say I enjoyed my stay here, and that this particular part of Paris was charming. I just hope that the air conditioning gets a revamp - thirty degree heat with none is not my cup of tea.

Very well connected with 2 or 3 Metro stations at a short walking distance. The room was very small and was difficult to move around with two normal-size suitcases kept on the floor (Typical room constraint in any economy hotel in Paris) But still it was very decent and cleaned everyday.
We had a big balcony surrounding the whole room and bathroom as well which gave a very nice 180° view from top.
The best part was the room had Aircon (rare to find that in Paris hotels) which helped us to have a sound sleep especially when the average highest temperature during our visit was 35°C.
The staff very friendly and allowed us to keep baggage in the cloak room for 4-5 hours after check-out and even allowed us to use the lobby area and washrooms to freshen-up and get going before the long journey back home.

Family of 4. We stayed here for 4 days in June and although the rooms are very small, it was a great hotel. The staff was so polite (which is a rare find in Paris) and helpful. They all speak English (some better than others, but they all spoke enough to effectively communicate). The free breakfast doesn't offer a huge selection, but is was definitely enough to choose from. The offers are breads and cheeses, cereals, fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs and an assortment of juices. The area is decent, a walking distance from several restaurant choices.

Room tip: Get a room with a balcony!

The hotel is within a comfortable area in terms of restaurants and underground lines vicinity. Rooms are little with old moquette. If you come to Paris during the aeronautical exhibition book largely in advance. You risk to pay more the 250 euros per night at this hotel as in all hotels
