A long overdue review... But simply the most incredible service and experience delivered by a venue I've had in 20 years of travel. A very special moment, brought about by a dedicated team that will live always in our memories. If you visit and take the time to get to know these wonderful people you won't regret it.

I visited to Paris with my girlfriend, hoping to leave with her as my fiance. I wanted the whole experience to be special for her. An important component to that is the hotel selection. As a platinum preferred guest with Starwood, I decided to stay at the W due to the brand's reputation for delivering a high quality and memorable customer experience.

This property unassuming... tucked around the corner from the front of the Garnier Opera House. We actually had a difficult time locating it at first. If I had not known that it was next to the Apple Store, it may have taken us more time to find it! At check in, we were offered a complimentary upgrade to a spectacular room, which was very large by Paris standards, and nicely appointed with the types of finishes that one comes to expect at a W property. The bed was comfortable and the rainforest showerhead was amazing.

The breakfast was delicious... the chocolate croissants were addicting. I can still picture the flaky crust -- something that I haven't been able to find in croissants back home. Also, the concierge was very helpful in making dinner reservations and suggestions, as well as in reserving tickets to different shows for us on our behalf. Overall, I would recommend this hotel, but it is a bit more subdued than other Ws I've been to.

When I proposed to my girlfriend (although it wasn't at the hotel), she said YES, and the great experience at the hotel certainly contributed to our memorable trip.

The hotel is in a beautiful building in a fabulous central location in Paris. It's opposite (no surprise here) the Opera House and is close to a multitude of shops. The room was a decent size, trendy decor with a lovely modern bathroom. On the downside though, the hotel bar was closed and the breakfast although good was only buffet style which was disappointing given it was so expensive. A glass of wine (not at breakfast) was 16 euros. Service in the hotel generally wasn't the best, slow, and not overly helpful, especially because we had to take our own bags to the room. The focus is definitely more on style and trying to be cool so for us, definitely misses out on being a five star hotel.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Opera was the W Paris Opera. Unlike traditional W's which screams to be heard, this W seems to be less of a punch. And yes, it really doesn't pack any punch, which is much desired when one stays at the W.

Check-in was quick but not thorough. Service was lukewarm, SPG Gold amenities were not offered, but it was clarified later that there was a note to ask upon check-out. Which was funny, as those amenities would be deems useless upon checking out. Lobby was a cosy size, decor was to be expected of a W, quirky and out-of-this-worldly cool~ There were MMM feather pens, glass domes housing eccentric props, busts of Lady Antoniette and the works.

A sweet surprise was the upgrade to the Spectacular Room. This room was big with lots of storage space and a cleverly designed toilet. Shower was great with good pressure, always a good thing for the tired body at the end of a cold day out. The view of the Opera was fabulous. Beds were extremely comfortable. My partner and I both agreed the pillows were the best out of all the hotels we have stayed in. Sound proofing was great by Parisian standard. Even though we were on the first floor, the traffic and vibrations of the underground Metro were barely felt. Great sound proofing.

But the room seemed a bit short on its amenities. In fact, the only amenities provided were bath towels, hair dryer, iron and board, plus the standard Bliss Sinkside Four. Gone were the toothbrushes, shaving kits, vanity kits, none. It was clarified that only upon requested would these be issued.

Despite having the usual card saying that two drinking water were complimentary for the SPG Gold members in the check-in folder, these could not be found as well. Gone were the complimentary teas, and coffees too. Reason offered was that, there were no space for the kettles and such. Given that there were space for the large single-tray Munchie Box, which is payable of course, there were none that could accommodate another tray of amenities?

Later on during out three night stay, we found out that a Nespresso machine could be rented at 30Euros, and a tray of 10 capsules could be purchased at the same 30Euros. Tea could also be bought at 8Euros per serving, which would naturally mean, coffee and tea were more expensive than Champagne in all honesty.

We were told by their staffs that despite this being a branded a W hotel, these were NOT standard hotel amenities. And as such, it would differ from properties. But it is much amusement to us that our trip to a basic Holiday Inn Kensington just days ago were able to provide all these amenities and then more. And W Paris had costed a lot more?

Also, it's peculiar to note that turndown service was boring or in-existential . One key thing about the W's is the ability to surprise you at different times of the day with the cute amenities provided. Be it the little toys they have around, the beautiful anniversary surprise pastry, or some popcorn by the bed for turndown. Which was only fulfilled with Laduree chocolate truffle the first night. Nothing was offered the second nor third, which made us kind of disappointed. This was something that is not a given, but it would have been a nice touch.

The staffs were great. Those that you managed to make conversation were really friendly. But most of them seemed to be making small chat among themselves throughout the whole stay. Eye contact was far and few.

Despite all these flaws, there is a hidden gem of a Talent, the wonderful W Insider Miss Cecile Rummler. She really really went all out to make our stay a very good one. She actively messaged or called us every late afternoon to make sure all is fine, and pointed out places we could visit. And in her capacity as a representative of the hotel, provided all there is that we need. She even managed to get us a insider only private, guided tour to one of the key events happening in the city. For that, we are really thankful and appreciative.

At the end of the day, my partner and I really think this couldn't be the fault of W or Starwood, nor was it an issue with the brand standard or guidelines. We have read before of rouge property owners whom simply don't follow standard brand guidelines. We do feel sorry for the staffs whom have to explain that tea/coffee is chargeable countlessly, and to bear the wrath of some travellers whom are already so accustomed to such basic amenities, like us. If the cost of starting a W is too much, and you even have to charge 5Euros for a basic necessity like a comb to be sent up to the room, maybe it would be good to open just an Aloft Paris, which happens to be 'A Vision of W Hotels'. At the very least, it would be easier to justify the needs to defray the cost of running a hotel.

And to clarify, no, the staffs on the Whatever/Whenever line or the Room Stylist couldn't understand english. We had to run Google Translate into the phone to translate comb/hair brush before the lady on the line understood what we were trying to say. These happens everyday whenever we asked for the many basic items, vanity kit, shaving kits, toothbrush etc. Which is kind of enduring in a weird frustrating way come the second day. We were really using our iPads and notepads to draw or using facial expressions+gestures to show what we need. Cute.

Room great, front desk staff friendly and efficient. A bit of an odd restaurant for a Whotel. We had a few problems with service in the restaurant but as soon as the manager realised there was an issue all was sorted extremely efficiently. There should be something on the web to say the bar is being refurbished.

After having stayed at the W hotels in Hollywood (LA) and London, and receiving amazing service I thought there is only one choice for my stay in Paris. When I saw that Eurostar had a special offer on in conjunction with the W Paris - Opera I jumped at the chance and booked it immediately.

I know how good their concierge service is from previous stays and can confirm again on this occasion I was not let down. I was In touch with Lucie a month before travelling to organise a few surprises for my girlfriends surprise birthday trip to Paris. I could tell straight away from Lucie's response she was extremely friendly, personable and ready to help. She offered me a list of extras from cakes, flowers, birthday decorations in the room, complimentary room upgrades.. the works.

I chose to have an extra large rose, a birthday cake and in room decorations. I also asked for early check in and a room upgrade. She advised she would make a note on my reservation in regards to the suite upgrade as it was dependent on availability. She paid great attention to detail asking questions about our preferences and about my girlfriend. She also asked for a photo of us which she had blown up to A1 poster size and placed on the wall in our suite.

On arrival and feeling very confident about my choice, we were greeted at the entrance by the ever-friendly W hotel porters who took our luggage inside. After a quick check in we were shown up to our suite (the upgrade was successful and complimentary). This overlooked the Opera House to the front of the hotel and the view of that magnificent building was incredible. Lucie had arranged everything perfectly, including the extras and a surprise gift for my girlfriend. The room was stunning and is perfect for the tech/gadget savvy traveller such as myself. It boasted a huge flat screen TV, a Ipod docking station, spark wall, king size bed, plenty of space, open bathroom with plenty of mirrors in the room and huge floor to ceiling windows.

We ordered a quick lunch as room service before we headed out to see the city. The service was efficient and friendly. The attendant wheeled in a trolley which he set up as a make-shift round table infront of our window overlooking the Opera house. What a great way to kick start our long weekend. The food was hot, tasty and presented well. It was expensive; chicken wings, a burger and fries and a charcuterie board with drinks came to over 100 EUROS. But hey its Paris, nothing is cheap and besides it was quality worth paying for.

24 hour room service was available and even at 2.00am the service was friendly and at the highest quality. All of the staff seemed to know it was my girlfriends birthday and wished her happy birthday which really made it for her. A very nice touch.

The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was quiet. No disturbances throughout the night or early morning even though the room over looked a busy area of central Paris. The rain-fall type shower had a large head, perfect pressure and hot water, and the shower cubicle itself was very spacious. As always the amenities and in room products were of the highest standard with W hotels. So much to choose from should you want to use their products or taste anything from the minibar. Again not cheap but well worth it.

The concierge and reception area was small but it didn't need to be any bigger, especially when such a great service is on offer. The gentleman on concierge was very knowledgeable on the city and even though it was my 3rd time in Paris I wanted to find some of the best restaurants on offer - more local and not tourist traps. He recommended us 'Les Coulisses Vintage' and what an absolute gem of a restaurant this is. On the backstreets leading up to and about 10 minutes away from the Moulin rouge area. The food was fine dining at a fraction of the price. The host/owner of the restaurant was very friendly and interacted with us well. He also took us through each dish on the menu which he seemed to do with every table making our experience even better. Well done to the hotel for recommending such a great restaurant and for being honest and not sending us to a tourist trap which would charge ridiculous prices.

The hotel itself is very cool. The spark walls throughout the hotel offer a funky 'young' vibe. In my opinion it is funky meets art-décor. It is quirky without being too vulgar and it works very well. The bar/restaurant is very well laid out. The furniture used and décor is exactly what I would chose in regards to interior design. The whole hotel offers a level of boutique sophistication that most other high end chain hotels lack.

Lucie and the team are all a credit and great assets to Starwood hotels and I would like the management to know what amazing staff they have working for them. You made our stay very special and especially for my girlfriend's first time in Paris.

My expectations of W hotels have remained constant and the bar has been set even higher after this experience... 5* every time.

Very convenient to the bus stop from the airport, 5.50 eu. Welcomed and offered a juice or water drink as we checked in. Was upgraded to a suite as a platinum member, but need a suite upgrade coupon to get a WOW suite. There was 2 complimentary bottles of water in the room, sometimes replenished, sometimes not. Bed was ok, 2 twins joined together for a king bed. the middle of each twin starting to sink in. Temperature was on the warm side, could not adjust the a/c much. If it got too warm, need to open the windows. Breakfast in the morning was a continental buffet, good selections, but does not change much. Service was pleasant. After we checked in, someone came to check on us and asked if we needed anything, couldn't think of anything so soon after checking in, but never came back again. It was like they have a routine for new check-ins, but not follow-up. But that was ok, had good privacy. Had a problem with a restaurant, concierge told us he was going to look into this, but never followed through. Location was convenient, and if you had trouble finding a place to eat, you can always go the the food court in the Lafayette store close by.
